Today I.....

Yes. I used a makeshift pencil runout gauge to check. My problem is that new disks start off being beautifully smooth and after about 200, 300 miles you gradually get the pulsing on foot/steering and yourcheck the runout again and the disk is warped again. I made a mental note that the driver's side seemed a little stiffer to push back than the passenger side, and that was the side with the warping. It may transpire to not be the calipers after all, but a wheel bearing or somesuch. The calipers do seem to release more readily that the old ones, so fingers crossed. I did contemplate doing a refurb myself, but i bought new in the end. Less hassle.

Today I'm on the train heading to pick up my car from the Paint shop again. Had a couple of sections re-dome as they weren't perfect but also had the front grilles painted gloss black and the headlights slightly tinted.

...changed the front disks and pads, Brembo on offer at Eurocarparts, cost me £57.50.
The only downside to working at the roadside with a lot of pedestrians is that some thieving scrote has stolen my torque wrench from behind my back, and with it the locking wheel bolt key.
Good job spares are easily available, but it's put the rear brake shoe and drum replacement on hold till the replacement arrives, and I need to buy a new torque wrench too.

Bah Humbug!

That's awful. Move to Wales, I could leave my car unlocked all night and it would still be there in the morning.

Barstewards - if you want to borrow mine Ian you're more than welcome. You could even borrow my drive if you wanted to carry out the maintenance on a trip 'up norf! :)

I don't live too far away from you but far enough and i have left my ramps outside in the porch for years and no one has ever nicked anything. You being in the thick of it, i wouldn't mind betting it was a remainer who did the dirty deed, Londons absolutely full of them. A case of the tail wagging the rest of the dog. Great deal on the Brembos make sure you have a video camera next time so you can catch the boogger red handed.

Well, I got a new torque wrench, just got to wait for a 20 spline wheel nut key to arrive.
Would it be worth a walk down the road in either direction to see if the security nut has dropped off? Would it also be worth changing the locking wheel bolts too - if the scrote has clocked the car it was from, is there a chance of the wheels going missing? Don't want to worry you overly, but it's a thought.

Already did that.
I think it was the torque wrench the little sod took the opportunity to nick without realising the nut was attached, so I’m not too worried about the wheels at the moment, but it might be a plan for the new year.

My 55 plate has no spline bolts at all? Did Audi discontinue spline bolts on the A2 at some point?

Ian, does it mean the scumbag has left you car less until the 30th?

Andy

No, I’d finished the front brakes and torqued all the wheel bolts, and was just starting to tidy up when I noticed the torque wrench had vanished.
It just means I can’t do the rear brakes till the 30th, and just hope I don’t get a puncture - but then Green Flag would earn their fee.

Neither has my 55 plate but the pine green one does (04 plate) and the blue breaker has them (04 plate, and my lads new one, (54 plate) has spline bolts as well.

Or even tonight....................cant see the breaker up the drive though.
