Today I.....

One very stuck rear brake caliper. Luckily I've got an FSI there to take one from but if that's had it, it will be a quick jaunt out to eurocarparts.

If it turns out to be a Eurocarparts job, the code MID35 will get you 35% discount. Hopefully you won’t need it, though.

Took off all my door, boot and bonnets seals cleaned them re oiled them all and put them all back on.. and fixed the bonnet catch that seamingly gets jammed .. all in all a good afternoon..

Well, what should have been a simple brake pad change turned into 6 hours (due to a missing washer) spread over 2 days and new pads, new discs, one new caliper, one used but good caliper and a replacement slide bolt.

Thanks Ian (Bargepower) got the new caliper from euros at a good price.

Gave my A2 his first wash of the year not supplied by nature. Shiny!

'Oil' and rubber is usually a bad idea as it swells and rots it unless you used Silicone oil?

Snap on the bonnet catch though as mine also seized in the un-latched position this weekend - another dose of Silkopen hopefully has freed it off.

... sold Lundgren to a local chap who I think is going to become another member, he lives up the road and actually works about 200 yards from my house, so I'm sure I will be seeing more of him.

Today I ....... Had my first ever breakdown in an A2 !!!!!!!!!

Driving home in the recent purchase (The Red FSI with the tow bar that only cost £650) I was on the M25 and a loud thud from under the bonet followed by steam!

There was no ideal place to pull over and it seemed to carry on running ok, so I limped it along for a while, keeping a close eye on the temperature gauge. It was at a rock steady 90 so I gingerly carried on, but then the oil pressure warning light came on so I pulled over as quickly as I could (safely) and phoned the AA. It was rush hour so I expected a long wait but it was only 30 minutes. Bonnet off and there was an exploded coolandt pipe ! The guy tried to see what he could do but the aluminium connection was corroded badly and came to bits.

I had already suspected engine damage (mainly to the hydraulic tappets) when I had the low oil level warning light come on when driving it home after buying it.

But luckily enough I have a virtually stripped scrapper of an A2 FSI in my lock-up. with an 80K mile engine in it.
I was in the middle of sorting out a sale to a fellow member who was not in a rush for the engine, but this has changed my plans.

I had the donor booked in to have the engine and box removed but now the same guys can fit the donor engine into the red FSI.

The engine starts without the usual FSI rattle and sounds sweet when revved, so it should be an improvement (half the miles of the one that just went Kaput.

So the RED FSI will be back on the road soon and in much better condition (engine wise).

So a disaster but it could have been worse and it should work out fine in the end.
While it is being swapped I will get a newe clutch, cambelt kit and "pipe of death" fitted while it is all accessible.,

Once the engine is out of the donor it can go off to SUrreyt Autos to be cut in half for the "trailer conversion" affectionately named Audi 1/2 (half).

Room then to put Violet away in the Lock up until its lucky new owner comes along.

Today I . . . took the Red Rascal to my friendly bodyshop where the rear under bumper vents were replaced and a brand new set of genuine mudflaps were fitted. Hopefully, that will be the end of the water in the boot syndrome!

Today I ... Need to change my headlights bulbs ( before it gets dark ) after one of them failed last night. Anyone got any tips so that I don't spend my whole lunchtime messing about with them in the car park at work !!!

Take the headlight out... much easier than doing it blind as the retaining clips are a pain. 2x Torx screws and a plug and it’s out..

Thanks everyone took the headlights out using the T30 :) and got the bulbs in without removing the connectors. Last time I changed a bulb I just couldn't get the headlight lined up with the wing properly but this time it all seemed to work out OK, although I am not 100% happy with the lines on the driver side.
