Today I.....

Looking forward to hear how it goes.
The bead breaking was what has put me off for life. Failed with a hammer, a pry and a sledge hammer! The bottle jack, wood lengths and rope were used to make a DIY hydraulic gouge to force the rubber off the metal. Last fitter had used bead seal. It was scary and hard as hell!
Like I said, more power to you for doing it.

I made a 'bead breaker' many years ago and it as served me well over the years
It is made from a length of scaffolding tube about 6ft long, about 12" from one end I drilled an hole through the tube, then attached what looks like a claw and allow it to pivot on a bolt in the drilled hole
The claw is what breaks the bead using the length of tube as a lever, the other end of the tube is mounted in a hook bolted to the garage wall. I will take a picture and post it tomorrow, it is difficult to describe
Cheers,

Today I completed my interior swap, the red leather and soul black interior is now in my TDI, the platinum trim is in the fsi along with the cloth seats I bought locally (leather ones still for sale ?).
I have also fitted auto lights, drls, Bluetooth adapter for hands free calling and streaming, TT steering wheel, Momo gear knob with TT rubber gaitor and alloy trim.
This all took longer than I expected due to a near fatal case of man flu that I have contracted ?. Still, open sky surgery next weekend!! Also swapping my SE wheels for the sport wheels from the FSI.
The final challenge will be to try to remove the Votex kit from the FSI (any tips most welcome). Then the FSI will go on the bay on a no reserve auction, I think I will have had my money's worth out of it.

Would be nice to see a few photos if you can.

....changed my rear door skin over. I wasn't happy with the paint finish so the paintshop did another one for free. Could have picked a better day though because it's 0 degrees here.

Also had a visit from Kleynie and his son to pick up some parts

A good A2 day today

Was overtaken by another A2 on the way to work, saw another A2 broken down on the hard shoulder of the A90 on the way home.

Then spent an hour of my evening refurbishing my key fob and then fitting my new keyring.

An A2 broken down, that is so 'not A2 behaviour' an FSI by any chance ? :)

....today I: (it actually took place last weekend but I managed to make a draft instead of posting.... )

-got help from my youngest son and we did some serious maintenance together on the A2 we have had for a week.... it drives well, no scary sounds, no smoke, no strange smelling, fuel consumption is low or very low.. so it will be a gift to my almost wife/his mother for her 50 years anniversary :) though, if it pass MOT :)
It had to be an outdoor job since we do not have a indoor facility available for the moment... so on the back in the snow :)
We took off the skid plate under the engine and:
  • drained the engine oil from hot engine, and when pulling the dipstick I managed to brake my first...
  • took out the airfilter and cleaned the air filter box and replaced with a new one
  • inspected all rubbel bellows, luckily they were in good condition
  • checked oil level in the gearbox, it was ok but good to know for sure...
  • tried to find the small leak in the flexy part of the exhaust without any luck... will try again next weekend with a snake camera
  • checked the tapped oil for the broken peace of the dipstick.... with no success ... puhhh
  • checked again for any leaks under there but could not find any scary
  • found a new seal for the engine oil drain plug and filled up with 4 litre of new 507.00 oil to check that the new "depronman" dipp stick repair kit was fitted correctly :)
Then it was time for a hot cup of tee and some traditional noggy sport [https://www.google.no/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjs2NqInf7ZAhXJdCwKHV-wDLYQtwIIKDAA&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wHqBsyN_dk&usg=AOvVaw0Y6SQaPkN-ZiIwqETOvuHL]
Sorry gents but we are speaking of a jump equal to the lengt of 66 A2s on a line.... :)

Today I . . . . . . got Tank through his MOT at the second time of asking, after the pedant failed him yesterday on lack of power to the nearside parking brake.

When I suggested he pull the lever a little harder (it was on 3 clicks when I picked him up), he said 3 clicks is the proper amount for Audis. So, cue showing him the Audi workshop manual today, pointing out that the adjustment position is 4 clicks and even then, you should just be able to turn the wheels.

So, after literally doing nothing to Tank, letting 24 hours go by and then taking it back to the same station, same tester, he passes!!

And that's a pass with the new 205/55 r 16 boots on too. New rear dampers and springs going on at the weekend and he'll be good to go.

And picked this up from the paint shop.. one member will be happy to know I’ve got this back ay Mark ?.. plus off to the Hydrodipper’s to pick the last of the interior bits up..

Well done Ian that looks fabulous and i can see why you've done a bumper change, they look so good like that with headlamp wash. I am indeed very happy to know of this good news, it's always brill when a plan comes of, so well done you in your efforts it's very much appreciated mate!!! See you after the Restoration show Saturday. ;)

Today I removed three out of four parts of the Votex kit from my donor FSI ? just the front spoiler to go. Left the back end of the donor on axle stands as I am pinching the sport alloys from it too.
Hopefully on Saturday I will carry out the OSS swap, then the FSI will go on the bay for a no reserve auction.
My £800 donor car has done well, complete interior swap, fitted cloth seats to replace the red leather ones, cost of £50, sold my grey leather seats for £300, full Votex body kit, working OSS, and a set of sport wheels with near new tyres.

Hi Bud,

I'm told that the Votex is only held on with double sided tape. Care to verify?
