Today I.....

Thanks to Robin, fitted front and rear ATE ceramic discs and pads to my A2. I also learnt a great deal, having never been confident enough to tackle brakes previously. They feel pretty good straight out of the box, once bedded in, I’m certain they will be an excellent upgrade. A big thanks to Robin.

The best thing about them is the zero brake dust. The wheels keep cleaner a lot longer.
Better get them bedded in this week mate because we'll be putting them to the test Sunday :)

A key reason I went for them mate - not the cheapest option.

Can’t keep up with you TDI boys and girls, so no dramas if the bite isn’t ready, I have the sat-nav meeting points programmed for when I lose you in flight... ?

Only thing with these is the fear of brake squeaking - keep us up to date :)

I’ve just had new normal pads on mine, the pervious pads were the ATE ceramic that Steve fitted when he had the car and I can notice a BIG different in break dust that much that I’ve ordered a new set of ceramic to be fitted next week when my car goes into WOM

I fitted ATE power discs and ceramic pads last July at 162k now 183k bite lovely when needed and minimal brake dust ?? Worth the extra pennies I say!
They took a little longer to bed in than normal discs and pads but I reckon it’s because my compute is all motorway.

You’ll love them

Having changed all my front end components shockers, top mounts, drop links, arb bushes wishbone, wheel bearings, pads, discs,I'm now getting a crack on braking and setting off a mechanic said it might be the spring which is on the back of the pads so i put new pads on still the same crack anyone any ideas.

Great to hear pal - thanks for sharing your experience.

Today I completed the install of a Connects2 box behind the dashboard centre stack, so now I have 3.5mm Aux-In to my Concert II unit for my MP3 player. Big thanks go to @Muska for this great little piece of kit :) To fit it there's just one wire to earth on the head unit, then plug and play - really simple. I managed to feed the input lead into the ashtray so that there's nothing to see with it closed, but when open there's enough lead for me to hold the MP3 player to set it going (not while on the move of course), then I can clip it to the edge of the storage cubby and it's stable for pressing the skip and volume buttons.

I also recently fitted the proper bracket for my space saver spare, using some bolts sourced from fleabay. Probably not the correct items but right size and thread and same Allen key to do/undo them - another job done.

Today, I fitted the 3D printed repair piece for the glovebox light from Depronman, to my brother's FSI. The part was delivered quickly, simple to do and works great!

The thread about the part is here.

Matt. :)

Today, I fitted a long 5th gear to a members TDI and changed the gear box oil at the same time, lubricated the gear linkages and set the cables. What a difference, gearbox was notchy before I started with a less than good shift from 2nd to 3rd and even worse from 4th to 3rd
The gear change is nice and sweet now, and the longer 5th certainly drops the revs. pulls nicely from 50mph in 5th, less than 50mph and it pulls but not quickly. Its running my Depronman remap on the AMF engine at 124,000
This is my 2nd long fifth gear conversion in the last month

Hi Nat,
The gears take a couple of days to arrive once ordered as does the gearbox oil
I need your car for around 3 hours to do the job

The end result is you do need to hold 4th gear for a little longer, at least 40mph, a little more if you are in a hurry
Motorway driving is a real pleasure 70mph (75 on speedo) is just a tad over 2200RPM and its sooooo quiet
Economy as increased on motorway runs by +4mpg on my run to Silverstone, maybe a little more as car was loaded up with camping gear and 2 adults plus I wasn't hanging around either, tank was silverstone return trip, a little running around there then my weeks commute to work, so 400 miles motorway and another 80 at town stop start driving, MPG was 71mpg brimmed to brimmed

Let me know if you want it done and I'll get a set of gears ordered and the oil for the box, there are different ratios available, but the 0.66 seems to be the best compromise, lower ratio and the gap from 4th to 5th will take a lot of managing, plus 70MPH would be less than 2200rpm and so starting to drop out of the power band, you could go slightly higher but you start to loose the benefit
Cheers,
Paul
