Today I.....

Not really, I found something like this works fine:

That's pretty much what I used. Hitting the front end of the wishbone with a dead-blow hammer was pointless, as the rear rubber bush just soaked up all of my energy without achieving anything . A good coating of red rubber grease on both the inside of the rear bush and the hex-section of the wishbone, wiggled it in as far as I could by hand, then used a Wolf clamp very similar to @Catnip64 . I found that if I loaded the clamp up and then left it for a minute or so, the wishbone would slide into the bush of its own accord - it just didn't like being hurried :)

Today (just) I drilled holes in 2 rear spoilers as advised by @Jellybean and others.

The £225 project drilled and no water emerged whatsoever.

On mine it nigh on pee’d out and looks like it’s rusting on the inside!

... took the car for a free MOT at Halfords - ruined it's perfect 1st time pass rate!
Failed on headlight aim ! + an advisory list longer than a weekly shopping receipt.

Anyway saved 50£ but certainly won't ever use them again

....had the chronic electric window not wanting to go up problem. Bought some silicon spray and applied on the rubber guiding rails. Now works like a charm! :)

I'm always wary of these too good to be true deals. If they've corrected the headlight beam would be interesting to re-present it a week later and see if they fail it on aim again ;-)

You know what's said about buses ...three knocks on the door in 45 minutes and three different couriers delivering goodies.

First up ...

Been keeping any eye out for a heated seats A2 climate for ages (over a year) and nothing has popped up, like gold dust and rocking horse ...
Anything in our climate style (not just A2) rarely crops up on eBay then last week what I think is an absolute bargain at £39, a near mint hard touch A4 B5 version, very pleased.....

What to do with it?

EITHER (not attractive)

Use the button housing with an A2 climate back box and then make the front fit. This means somehow marrying the top vent part of an A2 climate facia with the unit and using trim infill to match the width, (it's a few millimetres narrower than our A2 climate). Possible and will probably look okay but odd, not appealing to me.

OR

The real reason I bought it was for the heated seat thumbwheel switches and buttons (worth its price alone) AND to take measurements. It seems to me that an ordinary non heated seat A2 climate already has the 'tunnels' at the side to receive the thumbwheel switches, all that is needed is the square holes to expose the thumbwheels on the facia. Has anybody done this?, is it feasible? I asked this question last week in an 'underworld' (Marketplace) thread last week and got no response so worth asking again in this main forum. Of course the new square holes have to be very precise and cosmetically acceptable but I think this is within my skill set. I know I lose the heated seated icons but I can live with that as I know what they will do!

This is a back burner project but does anybody want (or know anybody who wants) the empty A4 B5 climate facia and back box going cheap at £39:)

Or you can buy a replacement cubbly hole (For single or double din dash) that has two required squares for heated turn dials, I bought one some years ago from TPS and a couple of members have done so. Looks like this:

...got rid of that silly lump next to the throttle pedal

Still trying to think of a better way to finish the plugged holes. I'm open to suggestions!

Yes I agree a good option and looked into it. Crew Audi informed me the special cubby was discontinued in Autumn 2017 but a German site was still listing it last Spring at ~£50.

I like a challenge.

Andy

An you post a photo of said holes? Thinking of removing mine but have not seen one done.

Cheers

Not quite sure what you're asking for, but if it's a photo of the trim panel before I plugged the holes, I'm afraid I didn't take one.

Pulling the 'lump' off takes quite a bit if force as it's heat-staked into place. You can see the grid pattern from the welding heads on the eight pins, left of shot.

.....Second up...

It seems to be the fashion to name our A2's so I have come up with the name 'Nothing Special', sums it up really.
At the August MOT for Nothing Special it was suggested I look at work on the front brakes before the MOT 2019 and when I noticed a cheap eBay ad for callipers I pounced. Have I got this wrong or is this a bargain or not?, absolutely identical to current (original) callipers including the Audi rings, (I thought they were supposed to be filed off!)

Okay, cheap because ad warns of light surface rust due to long self life but it turns out the callipers are perfect (some kind of zinc/galvanised plating) it was only slight rust on the inside of the pistons. Had a couple of new pistons and swapped them in, what a frustrating two hour job that turned out to be, got there in the end, but alternately you could just clean up the supplied pistons.

Yep it was a photo of what it looks like with the trim panel removed, I might just do it anyway as it’s pretty annoying when on a longer journey!

Hi Andy
I just had a look at the item and the title mention A2, but further down the compatibility check says not compatible with A2. Could you confirm they are compatible?
Thanks
