Today I.....

Today....Well, over the weekend I finally got round to fitting @depronman (Paul's) check strap which I had ordered from him last week. (Fantastic service)
I have to say, it's such a joy to have a smooth & silent driver's side door opening again...YePpY.

It's not a monumental task as long as you follow the guide which I followed: Thank you @Sarge for your how to guide & @spike for posting A2drivers's PDF, all a great help as always from the forum members making A2 ownership easy.

So, if your doors cracking like mad @depronman is your guy for the strap.;)

Nice1.

Will rub if you have four people in the car as I currently have that size tyre on my pepperpots on FSI, waiting for them to wear a bit before changing, good luck

Fitted 'her' TDI Sport with winter tyres(175/65) on pepperpots. She's not fond of the appearance though aware of the improvement in traction. I'm already running my winters (185/60) and find the ride nicer on the sport, surprisingly as it has sport suspension and has almost twice the mileage.

I had these and it rubbed in full and over bumps with one person and sport suspension

Returned from work - 160 mile each way. First big run in the car. Kept between 60 and 70 mph, returned 62mpg both ways. (Thought going back to the south coast was more downhill..?) quite happy with that.
Light came on at 388 miles - that seem right? I believe it has the small tank in it. Though will increase the tyre pressure as only on 32 all round. Didn't check the fuel flap you see... Car behaved perfectly. Think today I'm going to go fix that rear door issue that's cycling the locks..

Sounds about right, assume you've got a pre 2002 Diesel. If it's a petrol - GET IN!

yes 388 miles is about right depending on how full the tank / filler pipe was, if you file slowly and burp the tank (only on a diesel) you should get over 400 miles with ease on motorway running

... started looking back at my original posts, and (apart from an initial post from 2014) found my first post was almost exactly 2 years ago and, guess what... Question to @A2Steve "Do you have a BOSE kit...?"

Something rings familiar here :)

It will be 2 years since I picked up Baby Boomer on this coming Monday, from a very cold Bournemouth and having to buy a pair of gloves on the way home as the heater was stuck on the cold setting.

Stripped the door out, removed the lock. Repaired the micro switch dry solder but now the bl**dy door wont lock, probably another problem as the locks still cycle even with the DIS working correctly and you hear the lock cycle with the remote. Assuming the easiest way is swap out with a used unit?

Strange solder joint reflow normally sorts it out. If you fit a used unit reflow the joints before fitting

I'm wondering if I've reassembled it incorrectly, obviously there are motors and gears that I could have got wrong. However I had thought that having the door light on the did was also the fault of the locks clicking.

Reassebled the lock - works fine. Now the display has stopped again. Think there is a dodgy wire in the door... still, at least it locks now! I have a much greater understanding of the lock though :) one for another day...

Today I worked out why my service flap was difficult to Open.

Everything sat square as it should.
I cleaned and lubed the keep

i noticed that the other keep on the flap was adjustable, so played with that.

Then I noticed that the knob on the left was sitting at east to west.

And that the one on the right was sitting north to south.

It was doing the job of locking the bonnet when done up all the way home but not sitting comfortably in the the indentation on the back of the service flap.
Must of been over tightened at some point so mole grips clamping the metal keep on the back of the knob and turn knob with my hand.
Both knobs sit north to south and it opens and shuts perfectly.
