Today I.....

Today (well, yesterday really but I'm still up) my Crystal Blue got her MOT - no advisories, but unfortunately it was at the second time of asking, due to them discovering a failed handbrake cable. They didn't like the headlamp beams either. The nearside was 'pattern obviously incorrect' - although it looked the exactly the same pattern as the offside to me. The offside aim was too high but, where they were previously aimed level, it's come back with the offside noticeably higher than the nearside ... go figure? ? That'll be a job to level them out again one dry night soon .

Not best pleased either to get it back from the garage with dirty marks all over three of the seats  Both the rears, where they have been at the handbrake adjustment under the rear ashtray. Then the flimsy plastic cover they put on the driver's seat split and marked it up pretty badly during the couple of days they had it and moved it about, while waiting for the replacement cable to arrive ? Oh well, off to Halfords for another tin of Ambersil in the morning. That'll get it all out, although I'll probably have to take all three seats out of the car and bring them inside to do a proper job and dry them fully. May as well have the front passengers out too while I'm at it.☹ Ho hum.

Had a happy Halloween encounter with a very friendly light blue 51 plated A2, who followed my silver Y plate from Pyrford, through Old Woking to Guildford yesterday evening. Great to see another enthusiast and very much enjoyed the waving and headlamp flashing! Next my A2 formed part of a Halloween display in our front garden, hazard lights flashing, corpse under the wheels, while surrounded by police incident tape and pumpkins....

This thread is useless without pictures ;)

..fitted blue OEM doorcards, the better to match the exterior (plus a shinier mirror adjuster while at it).

Not quite a perfect match for Mauritius blue (any tips on how to improve welcome), but it does add some welcome personality.

Yes, that brightens it up a bit! I'd go for the blue wheel, hand-brake cover, gear knob and gaiter. I like the interior to be as light and airy as possible. I just don't like the "hearse" effect. That's why I even changed the dash to twist. Platinum for the door-cards and blue leather like I've just suggested, for those items. My seats are blue leather. Paintwork is blue metallic, too ....

I’m hoping for just the handbrake cover as I don’t know if full blue will stand the test of time.. certainly, chrome brightwork looks great with a dark interior, so I’ll try and replace some other knobs and switches in due course. I deliberately have OSS to bring light, but I do think the darker interior works better for a sportier attitude. My last A2 (which later went to Sciroccorrado) was a 1.4 petrol with OSS, a full cream (heated) interior and dashboard - great place to be, but better suited to a wafty SE spec (and nothing wrong with that!)

Finally managed to rescue Barney from the street I had to abandon him in a couple of weeks ago when he got a puncture.
I discovered that the sport wheels have a different locking wheel nut thing, than SE ones. I was thinking I was going to have to give up as soon as I realised that Mabel's wasn't going to work. Thankfully the previous owner had shoved Barney's one at the back of the glovebox.
Barney now has Mabel's spare little wheel and is booked in for four new tyres (were all very low) next Saturday

This weekend I have rectified the things on my Crystal Blue that I posted about after getting her back from the MOT. Nice clean seats once again, and level headlights albeit a bit lower than before.

I also fitted mint driver's window switches with the correct earlier icons in a near-perfect surround panel, both of which it's been needing for all the time I've had it. The switches came to me recently with a rather nice Colour Storm attached :D and have been replaced in that car by some more mint items purchased from @Jeffers66's spares hoard, this time with the correct later icons. The surround came from eBay, surprisingly - the switches in it weren't bad either, they'll certainly be good spares.

Today i picked up the wishbone at the local Audi dealer, together with a rubber bush. Should i have bought the front bush aswell or are they easy to reuse?

Today I took delivery of 22 litres of the correct-spec 2-stroke oil for my TDI. That's enough for the next 52,000 miles. :)
Yes, I'd have liked to know the cost and supplier, Tom? Thanks (However, I might not live that long!) :D
