Today I.....

Just recently worked on a Golf that uses plastic drop links, one of which had snapped!!
If you are having wheel alignment done make sure the steering wheel is dead center before they start. Off set steering wheel confuses the self cancelling indicators and can also have an effect of the slip ring in the column for the ESP and it just looks pants.
Professional wheel alignment (tracking) should center the steering wheel regardless of where it was before otherwise its a bodge job!
I use string bit of a faff but get good results!

Yes professional - the only way to do it correctly - tracking should ensure the steering wheel is locked dead center, but I have come across several cars where after tracking the wheel was very much off center. When I spoke to their owners all confirmed either that was not the way it was before the tracking or thought it did not matter. Needless to say I sent them all back to the garage to get them re-tracked correctly. In one case the young lady had 4 new tyres fitted at the same time as the tracking...

Took a little drive up to St Anne’s to collect the replacement slam panel @depronman har kindly secured and been patiently storing for me some weeks ago. Thanks for your help Paul and great meeting you and having a quick chat.

That was far more enjoyable than sorting the brake light switch issue which flared up again on my return journey and very nearly caused we to totally lose the plot. In the end I managed it but I hope never to have to do it again!!!

Fitted the new (to me anyway!) hard touch climate control panel and heated mirrors @A2Steve supplied with me. In absolutely as described condition, perfectly packed and arrived super quick. Thank you for providing your service. You make a owning, maintaining and improving an A2 infinitely easier than otherwise it would be.

Many thanks to @Birchall for (Historically) creating a thread with all the useful fitting hints in one place.

Two much easier jobs than yesterday’s brake light switch debacle!

Today driving near Bruton in Somerset when a bird of prey swooped over the bonnet about 2 metres away at hedgerow height. Awesome sight. Wish I had a dash cam. It was grey and I guess the width of the car in length.
Hi ,
probably a Peregrine falcon If any are nesting nearby, we have some in Cambridge city centre!

Painted the black lightweight alloys today, personally I much prefer the silver!

Ha, forgot to mention that I swapped them over to the other car

I used metallic spray paint from wickes, that once lacquered just made the paint melt and run. So I started again and used hammerite smooth. Bought 4 rattle cans from eBay at about £25 and used about 2.5 cans (same thing in Halfords £12.99 a tin) I’m happy with the result for now and didn’t cost me £350!

I have same wheels but fronts are polished well tarnished polished and rears dull silver, like the A1 wheels but bit pricey and want to keep the 175 tyres

Had the A1’s on a previous A2 nice but pretty heavy, they do however help give a more modern look.

It's a tough call between Pine green or Dolphin grey I've been trying to find a Pine green Tdi for over 18 months now and couldn't believe my luck as the guy starting rattling off all the extras it had. This one's definitely been worth the wait

Where did it come from Sir?

It was the very same car I seen at the Falkland Christmas market 2 years ago that made me fall in love with the colour, I went back 6-8months later but it wasn't there ? Then I was passing the other week and thought I'll swing past again to see if it was there and guess what, it was so I knocked on the guys door asked if it was for sale and the rest is history ?

Today we endured our last day of packing, ready to move home tomorrow! Spud has 8 crates of stuff plus miscellaneous items stuffed around them. Jelly is full of shrink wrapped clothes, curtains n sheets.
Both have a nice rear stance, but fronts are too high.
Will lighten their load tomorrow.
