Today I.....

That would be an interesting one Tom, more power to you! I will watch and wait with interest. If you (or indeed @Kleynie) should get to a stage where you have stock of refurbished ones, and can remove a drooping one and fit a refurbished one for a visiting member, that would be well worth knowing about ?

That is what I’m hoping for Ian. I used to be a bit of an expert reupholstering a sagging headlining. Not don’t it for a decade but hopefully it’s like riding a bike. Mainly used to do it in my old projects, Classic Saab 900 Turbos and the Jaguar XJS. In comparison the A2 is so much smaller so fingers crossed it’s easier and something I can start as a service soon enough. I’ll start with collating some spare headliner biscuits.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom
Does this mean you do a re trim service on shabby headlining?
thanks

Yes that is exactly what I’m suggesting. I’d rather have a stock of reupholstered headlinings first so no one is waiting for it to be done on my driveway.

There will probably be a one off black headlining available along with black roof furniture for an OSS A2. This is from a forgotten project I was preparing for the breaker.

Kind regards,

Tom

Definitely be interested in this ?
Sounds like another cracking idea.
Look forward to when it comes to fruition.

Crack on Tom, whats not to like about a guy who can fix the droop!
Seriously both mine have started to sag, so will need one for OSS and one without OSS. Is it possible to have them colour coded, or are you just going to offer stock colours/repairs?

Good afternoon Sir,

The choice would be yours regards colour. When the time comes, I would ask you so search the usual places of purchase to order some samples. Once you receive the colour/look you desire I will order it/or you order it and have it sent to me. I’ll sprinkle fairy dust all over it then you turn up, have a brew whilst I remove you saggy headliner and fit a replacement headliner with your purchased fabric.

Not quite worked out the whole flow of how it’ll work with money etcetera but I’ll think it over. I’ll always be accommodating to suit people’s needs.

Kind regards,

Tom

I don't reupholster the headlining when doing OSS repairs, I've never really had the balls to take the fabric off and re stick it. This does sound interesting though and something I know would accumulate a lot of interest. If you sell the black roof furniture and lining, could I please have first dibs? It's a project I've been considering for ages now.
Thanks

Continuing with today...

Said goodbye to my trusty stead:

So this morning was spent removing the final parts from my (used to be beautiful) Ebony Black 1.4 BBY A2. It’ll be collected in the next couple of hours.

Also had a visit from @simufly to drop off 2 OSS Headlining Biscuits for reupholstering. This is a service I might start up for members unless @Kleynie already does this when repairing BSS’s.

Kind regards,

Tom
I get wet in my eyes. Poor car, but how good that so much is saved, well done.

And I will bet there was much more you could have taken off it but understandable with the wife breathing down your neck.

To be honest John there was not much left.

Front bumper, front passenger side door, rear hatch, main engine, gearbox with clutch, front wings, windscreen. I removed everything else. I also have most of the wiring harnesses cut out for spare that can be used for future wiring projects etcetera. Most of the plugs were removed from a request. The collection driver was quite surprised at what little remained as I think he thought there might be a few more £££s in it before it went to the crusher.

A few A2s have been upgraded and more importantly many kept on the road due to this car. I think all parts removed were nicely priced like you see with @A2Steve and what we used to see with @Birchall.

I must doff my hat off to Steve and his parts enterprise as trying to remove parts whilst homeschooling, being a top dad and attempting to be a top husband was difficult. Time spent outside with a ratchet in my hand is another chapter I’ve not read to our boys, another wall not plastered/decorated or another meal I got out of cooking etcetera.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom - I would be interested in this service please. Be great if you can keep me posted please.
Thanks

It is a testament to the A2 that anyone would sell their car to a neighbour, especially a car that is at least 15 years old.

Anything other than an A2 and you would probably not sell to a neighbour ever!!!

I couldn't think of anything worse than my car going to a neighbour!
You will be pining for it every time you see it! ?
I agree, less so about pining for it and more because I would be scrutinising the way they’d look after it (I’d have no right to which I understand).

Just imagine if they pranged it or let it get into a state. I’d be heartbroken if it had a flat and they’d left it for weeks on end in disrepair.
