Today I.....

I had already fitted up behind the steering wheel an adapter block that has three 12v sockets and 3 USB sockets that is ignition live. I have run a USB extension cable between that and connected the USB cable from the Garmin to it. That way I just disconnect the USB from the extension cable and can remove the unit for safety or updating. As the power is ignition live the Garmin switches on and off with the ignition.

@Jeetesh ref a folding screen. There are some single din stereos (aftermarket) that feature a pop up screen. Exactly what functions are available with these units I do not know and will not work on DIS and probably not much use with Bose either.

something like this

I looked at every one of these on the market and even found one that had the same red glow as the original Audi buttons but in its parked position didn’t look right for me in the dash and covers the cup holders.

I remember the discussion with Tom about how much was I actually going to use the satnav, the answer was rarely. The bigger thing for me was music so went with an Xcarlink to stream music from my phone and the phone satnav occasionally.

Today I... finally got round to fitting the rear heko wind deflectors @johnyfartbox sent me a while back, always liked having a full set instead of just the fronts.

Today I failed my MOT!

I had out the car in on Monday for them to fix any issues before the MOT but they were busy and so decided to see what failed THEN fix it. Don’t they understand?!? I want a clean MOT history!

ARB bushings and drop links are worn, a front wheel bearing and a number plate bulb out. Meh!

Ouch - sorry to hear but all fixable and maybe you could find a A2 buddy to lend you the bearing puller if you fancy having a go yourself? :)

this year I’m going to make good on my promise to myself and get another MOT IN summer. Did DIY on the car last week and it’s miserable when it’s cold.
I wish that I had just got my MOT done in June when it was usually done, since the extension due to the pandemic it is now due in December instead. I never worry about a clean MOT certificate but I had a pleasant surprise in December getting a clean one after having quite a lot of work done on it over the last year.
I did not realise that you can present it for MOT at any time of year to shift the date. I might just do that myself.

Under the present situation do not have enough spare time to do any more to it. Functions exactly as I want it to and could revisit finish if or when time frees up.

So was there a problem with the rear brakes? Is it still losing coolant?

The vents are still there just the operating flap is now locked in the closed position. Pretty much how the center vents have been all the time - unused. To revert to standard would require the now modified center vents panel replacing with a standard one ( the outer horizontal louvres and the central vertical bar have been removed to let the satnav sit into the vent area at the bottom and extend up over the top. I did think about fitting a smaller screen satnav and making smaller vents that fitted either side but decided to have the bigger screen instead.
