Today I.....

Yesterday night I changed the air filter and diesel filter on my newly aquired A2. It is a tired old reliable diesel with 143k miles on the clock ? I have now done a full interior clean, full filter service, oil and brake fluid service on it with more jobs to come.
? Looks like they were well overdue and really needed doing ?

Bet the car is pulling so much better now?

In the last 24hrs anyway

Met RZX (Molly and her partner) had a lovely chat whilst buying a long awaited set of pepperpots!!
Followed today buying a fifth one from a local chap!! (Like buses eh!!!)

Did they produce them in polished and painted?

Yep, one part number ends in D the other E if I'm not mistaken ?

Sorry to hear your news Steve. Are you sure that the tank was syphoned as you were already low on fuel. There is also something in the filler that prevents syphoning ( believe made law after the fuel crisis for all manufacturers to fit ). Possible the car was low and the lack of cap prevented the tank from "pressurising" and confused the emission system and that shut down the engine or the remaining fuel was not capable of combustion due to contaminates. If you have had a lot of rain then high chance it was water in the fuel. As you say more than an inconvenience but something that you could do yourself if you have the time and patience. You have checked to see if there is a different problem and not a fuel issue?

I'm not convinced that the tank was siphoned at all. However, something has definitely happened inside the fuel tank. I'm waiting for my new fuel cap to arrive before I investigate further, then I'll probably start a new thread here covering this issue.

Thanks to everyone for the expressions of support over this, all appreciated.

I once had a small Volvo (Ex Daf) horrid thing, anyway someone kindly dumped a small golf sized piece of rolled up clay with straw & grass into the tank. Took a few weeks to finally nail the root cause of it as pieces kept braking off and stalling the car after 2-3 miles, leave it 20 mins and it would fire up again.
Tank off drained full line cleaned, mechanical fuel pump off and cleaned as well as the carb. Nasty.

I'm thinking that something similar has happened here.

Today in Glasgow I had to wait for it to cool down enough to wash the car!
Also fitted red springs to the boot struts and replaced the temperamental boot release solinoid.

Made the most of the fact it’s still light at 9pm and did a little bit of detailing when the kids were in bed. Very therapeutic ?

Looks stunning Steve, even more so with the fading light, good effort mate.
I spent the very warm afternoon cleaning and protecting the leather seats with the furniture clinic car kit, plus a full interior clean to remove the sand from the social?

What a difference the upper sections in silver makes to that car, really brings it out - brilliant move Steve ?

I used to wash & polish a black car in the late summer evenings some years ago, I'd get the sunset reflected in the bonnet like a black mirror, very therapeutic indeed ?
