Today I.....

I would like To thank Ian bargepower firstly who very kindly picked up a set of pepperpot wheels from Rob A2 dork And delivered them to me earlier this afternoon .. What a diamond this fella is had coffee and chocolate biscuits and a good chat ...but what a person to have on this forum I can’t speak highly enough Thanks ian ..and to rob for selling me a mint set of pepperpots ..Paul

Coilovers have the good old ground spring ends and flat spring seats, giving them an easier and probably longer life. (Not sure about the driver though)

Cheers Spike
Hej Hello, here's the driver ?! Funny thing is; the Weitec coilover is pretty comfortable. As said, Bilstein B8 combined with 1.2tdi springs is stiffer (lot of fun too!).
Ofcourse it's not a cushy sofa but for sure not bone hard and not a menace to other car components, if it was I wouldn't use it (been there..).

@greywolfhound are you getting the A8 Winterfelgen replaced?
No Menno ? these are for my new silver A2 tdi it has 3 trashed 17” wheels .. I much prefer a 15 inch wheels on a daily run round not the 17 inch boneshaker ride..my a2 with the winterfelgen is tucked away having a sleep whilst I put the miles on this new run round ..? it’s already got well over 160k I would like to get it over 200,000 ..to join the prestigious mile high club ?..or should that be high mile ??..

returned to my part of Scotland from Tavistock .. 8h41 minutes door to door with 3 10-15 minute stops for fuel, food, and a bit of rest. PTW 6th used from the A30 to M5 junction in Devon to Tebay barring the climb running up to Gordano before Bristol and then eventually after Tebay services where I used 5th until I got to Shap summit, and again north of there apart from Beattock. Was surprised to note that external air temp around 4am by Birmingham was 18 degrees - where the steeper gradients on the M5 were starting to get the coolant temp needle up to 95 or so (I've never seen the needle above 90 degrees previously) and oil temperatures up to 102 degrees (colour DIS). You really notice 800rpm less for a good long while at a time due to lower fatigue overall. An A2 is not a Bentley, but for a near 20-year-old small car the refinement is pretty incredible.

What’s your new cruising speed now Robin? With my car it’s uncomfortable at much under 65mph on the flat

That makes sense. 65mph would probably be around 1800rpm and although it would accelerate from there, if I realised that I was being slowed by traffic to 60ish or 50 I popped it down into 5th or 4th for when I needed to get back up to 70 again. I was setting 70-71mph on the cruise control and it rumbles along quite happily at that or just under the 2100rpm mark relatively unaffected by gradients except in extremis. I don't have a dyno plot for the engine, but it pulls strongly from 2100rpm in a way that it doesn't at 1800 (in the big gears) and bearing in mind the comments here about high torque / low revs being not the best for the transmission I decided to change gear to get the revs above 2100 when this happened. Relatively little in the way of traffic setting off at 0035 so it was possible to stay in 6th for good long periods.

Today I parked along an 15 years old A6 allroad. My A2 is 21 years old.

On the A6 you could put your entire hand through the door hehe

...well yesterday actually, I discovered that the rear drums probably need cleaning/lubricating every 6 months! It was nearly a year since I last cleaned them and when I jacked up the wheels to check the bearings prior to its MoT next month, I found the rear brakes were dragging. Once I finally got them to pieces, I found the handbrake lever pivot was very stiff. I've freed it off for now, but decided that new drums and shoes are the way forward.

Not a very pretty sight:

My A6 C5 armrest turned up today - I’m very happy as it turns out after a good scrub with anti-bac spray in excellent condition with just a little patina hinting at its age - which means it will look perfectly at home in Audrey once Tom @2work & Paul @depronman have whisked their latest innovation to my door in the form of the mounting kit for it - AND it has a proper Pearl nappa leather top too just like I hoped .

Today I….
Had my FSI serviced at WOM!
I’m so pleased it’s had dedicated, passionate A2 experts giving it the full look over + gearbox oil change.
Marcus and Rob are such nice lads and enjoy talking about A2’s rather than the usual crap you get from some other garages.
It was funny seeing so many other A2’s in various states of repair. One of them could well have been yours!
I also had my first drive in a TDI, I liked it but it’s always nice getting old familiar back.
I think they might have something quite special coming up for sale soon. Keep an eye on their site if you’re in the market.

I'm dropping my FSI off with the boys on Monday Phil, full service, rocker cover gasket replacement, coolant pipe inspection (and replacement as needed), and OSS service.

Looking forward to the journey up (a nice drive in the A2) and seeing them both. A trusted specialist garage is well worth the journey time, and WOM are just that.
