Brilliant! Audi missed a trick not extending the windscreen that far up; looks fab!
 
Today I fitted Flipper's grey Le mans onto project Methuselah, got him down off the axle stands and gave him a quick wash down as he was beginning to look like an unloved child ?

These cars truly are amazing, after sitting since the very first lockdown back in March/April last year I stuck the boost pack onto it and it burst into life and ready to go first turn of the key with zero warning lights on the dash.

The other good point I discovered was I thought the mileage was 176k but when I fired it up it was only 164k...result! I've definitely rekindled
my love for this wee car, so I think I'll get it back on the road asap

Hi all, so this happened. The glove box handle broke off.

No excessive force was used, apparently. The top-holder bit broke off unfortunately, red line shows it, the bottom holder bit is intact and still in glove box door.

The original opening mechanism was broken before I bought the car, now 2 magnets hold the door which ain't great but works, so not sure how to fix it. Shall I glue the whole handle to the glove box door? Gluing the small broken back won't hold probably.

Today I drove up to Walsall and test drove the FSI I put a deposit down on last week. Despite best efforts, the dealer couldn’t be persuaded to do a deal for the seats alone, but I was actually quite pleased because I was seriously impressed with how the car drove. The positive action of the gear change and how ‘modern’ and quiet it felt definitely exceeded my expectations. Whilst beautifully specced, it is tired in quite a few places but I’m going to give it a go and see how I get on.

I then headed up to WOM and dropped Tonka off for its service, cambelt change and oil pump chain and sprocket change. It was lovely to see a number of cars in the flesh I’d only previously read about or seen photos of including the legendary @Imola Yellow and @Darren C ‘s beautiful car to name but two.

Then my dear friend Paul, who had kindly agreed to pick me up from WOM and drive me back home to Gloucestershire, announced he thought the Dolphin Grey one might be perfect for his son so I’m hoping that has found a good home as well!!

Quite a day!!!

Great to see you are taking on an FSI (and another A2). The slick gear changes and refinement do compensate to a degree for the lack of turbo grunt demonstrated so competently by the TDIs. Thanks for your kind comments too - I'll be happy when it is 'back together' - a fair bit of road noise on the journey to WOM, I even had the vanity lights tapping on their cable-ties at one point. :)

I hope you didn't look too closely at mine - its main use is as a house moving van at the moment, so a bit of a shed inside.
 
So today I found the cause of my misfire on cylinder No.2

Looks like a leaking valve causing it to burn.

Well an evening mopping the car and good polish today with the new wheels and tyres ...the pup I recently bought is starting to look a lot better .. It comes with the benefit of cruise control ..heated red leather still looks worn after a good clean and feed .. but it’s the best I can do without dying them and to be honest I quite like the worn look .. Two mint front headlights has made a huge difference..Ice cold aircon ?..Brakes front and back have been refreshed new discs pads & rear cylinders and shoes . .oil change and filters inc cabin ..new drop links oh and Sunroof working ?.. I will drive it now it’s a new winter hack.. But looks half tidy.. Just offside rear wheel arch to paint and rear spoiler to paint next week and that’s it..at 160k plus so not to shabby ....at least it will save my low mile one the worst of the winter weather ...

It looks like the 2nd from the top is suffering from a leaking head gasket water into bore, resulting
in a steam cleaned swirl chamber on the head.
Unless you’ve cleaned that up.

Hi Keith it’s not this is caused by a leaking valve this means that this valve simply gets very hot thus why it’s like this. The reason it was stripped down is this is what we were expecting to find.

Today I made my first pilgrimage to WOM!! many thanks for the advice and your time fellas. It was bitter sweet - It was great to have some positive input about the car generally BUT not so good to have my fears about the condition of the gearbox confirmed (if anyone has a gearbox for a 1.4 petrol 2002 lying around - please think of me.....). I filled up before i left Asda at Newport and i filled up again at the exact same pump on my return - the car averaged 56.42 mpg!!! That was even with significant use of the climate control... Done about 2000 miles in it since we bought it and despite the dodgy gearbox it has averaged 47mpg - which i reckon is pretty good for a 20 year old car.

It was also good to meet @drewroberts with his TDi 90 - great little car - lots of oomph. I'm almost persuaded that I need one of those when I've got this one properly sorted for my lad to learn in.... i can see why people on here seem to be persuaded that one A2 in your life is not enough :cool:
