Today I.....

While restoring headlights from filthy French yellow as best I could ( ended up re starting at 400 grit!) I noticed this piece of inprovisation, never a dull day in A2 world
Headlights work.jpg

It’s a lot easier to remove the headlight from the car before sanding and polishing
Only 2 screws to remove the headlight
Saves all the mess on the paintwork and masking up etc

Yeah very true but I havent got a work bench just yet. I think I'll have another go at them after winter off the car. Thanks ?

Totally agree with depronman about removing the headlamps for polishing . The only disadvantage is holding the lamps steady whilst you polish them . Maybe an improvised wooden holder of some sort then either in a bench /workmate or some sort of bracket ! Got to do something as my headlamps are also awful . Did a quick but not very good job so need to do it again ..

I went down to gentle 400 wet dry then 600 800 1000 1500 2500 3000. Was scared first time so did them again and pressed harder with 600 got better results. Mine were horrifying so this is 95 times better.

Yes exactly that. By hand very precise but time consuming although ideal if you want to work on a scratch. On a pad on a drill or orbital polisher much faster. Can take up to three passes ( possibly more ) to get that like new finish. Worst car that I have used it on successfully was a Honda Civic and those headlights were very yellow and opaque.

If the headlights have been previously refinished it will take a bit more effort to clear off the laquer and get out the small scratches.

got the A2's alignment mostly sorted - it's much better now, but I would still like more toe-in, i think. Was +0,x on one side and -0,x on the other, now it's -0.05 on both. Off up north tomorrow, first time it's been on a serious run in a very long time... probably in the last 5 years.

….finished off work on the high spec FSI Sport I’ve had here for a month or so. Really pleased with the way it’s turned out. Could have got more for it as a breaker but glad I stuck with it and also kept it standard. An FSI that’s running right with a functional EML is quite a pleasure and rarity ?. Heading to the usual classified outlets once it’s had its new MOT.

Platinum heated sports leathers?

Morning all,

Remember this post where I was over the moon:

Evening all,

Today I am thrilled we have such a great community…

This afternoon I received my bargain purchase:

This 2009 8J0035193 unit (no revision letter so is exactly the same as a 193B) functions perfectly and has already been updated to the latest Beta Firmware:

Very very happy with my purchase that would not have been obtainable without our amazing community spirited members.

Well it just gets better today. You’ll know that I was suddenly on the hunt for an A3/4/6 fascia that can be trimmed to snugly fit into the A2s aperture.

I got in touch with Bart at VAG Retrofits as he often sells RNS-E parts, he actually had one one on eBay for £80. After chatting with him he was happy for a straight swap. What an absolute legend he is and I highly recommend his services. Have a look on his website for his offerings (retrofits and retrofit harness adapters etcetera).

He also stated that he will give discounts to A2OC Members (just mention my name when contacting him).

So this is what my £150 TT RNS-E PU now looks like (yes it needs some Dremel attention, all in good time)

I’m so happy with the way this gamble worked out.

Have a great day everyone.

Kind regards,

Tom
