Today I.....

Morning all,

Remember this post where I was over the moon:

Well it just gets better today. You’ll know that I was suddenly on the hunt for an A3/4/6 fascia that can be trimmed to snugly fit into the A2s aperture.

I got in touch with Bart at VAG Retrofits as he often sells RNS-E parts, he actually had one one on eBay for £80. After chatting with him he was happy for a straight swap. What an absolute legend he is and I highly recommend his services. Have a look on his website for his offerings (retrofits and retrofit harness adapters etcetera).

He also stated that he will give discounts to A2OC Members (just mention my name when contacting him).

So this is what my £150 TT RNS-E PU now looks like (yes it needs some Dremel attention, all in good time)

I’m so happy with the way this gamble worked out.

Have a great day everyone.

Kind regards,

Tom
What a result! Well done Tom

That looks amazing, great result!

That Bluetooth module you picked up was an incredible bargain! Generally seem to be for sale for 100 times what you paid!!

Fitted sound deadening to the front doors to match the rear, they sound so much more solid when you shut them and enhances the sounds of the BOSE retrofit! I then sat in the car and enjoyed a few tracks whilst I tweaked the EQ on my phone and head unit. Love looking at that old nav…. :)

I used a product called dodo mat, its made in the UK and seems just as thick and durable as dynamat but much cheaper. I bought a bulk pack and it seems to just keep going! Make sure you put some around the outer door handle frame as it makes the door opening feel much more solid

Thanks for the info! Where did you buy it from?

I must say I’m more and more interested in buying British products these days - it can sometimes work out slightly pricier but quality is nearly always high and it gives me satisfaction that the money is staying in our economy rather than feeding China’s - a country whose unethical approach to many areas of human life and the environment I find abhorrent (although I will stop there as I do not wish to sound political).

So thank you for highlighting this product. When I come to take Audrey’s door cards off I will order some. Have you noticed a difference in road noise? I always wondered how much noise from example from other cars on the motorway might be leaking into the car and reaching my ears through the doors

Think that's the vdo asv valve zip tied on. What should be on there? Maybe it's letting air in, ?. Scared to take it off!
Hi CrispyEdd,
You will find the metal ferrule crimped on the end of the hose , the metal wears through allowing the hose to blow out under load hence the temporary repair with cable ties.
The fix will be a replacement pipe with the metal lugs intact
(TPS) etc
Photos are from mk2 Galaxy but the engine is the same +1 cylinder .
Wear is evident on the ferrule!
Hope that helps
Keith.

Decided to replace the increasingly recalcitrant petrol flap switch on my other half's car (the AUA that we have been fixing up for 2 and a bit years now following years of apparent neglect). Had a new one from an A2oc member a few weeks back in perfect condition. Released the switch from the trim, pulled it out to find the red-coloured connector with a single plastic flap sticking out of the connector. This looked different to what I was expecting, so I checked my other two cars - and found that 75% of the connector release mechanism was snapped off (ie, the other side of the connector and the complete lifting release mechanism were absent). In better light then I saw slightly glossy patches around the connector and the same flowed into the gaps at the sides - and realised (with help of a screwdriver) that the p*k&y b******ds who maintained, sold and probably fraudulently MOTd the car for the handful of previous owners in Fife (I am reasonably certain that this is the case judging by the MOT certificates, mileages and the appalling condition we received it in 3 months after a clean MOT) used superglue to keep the two parts together once the connector catch snapped. Really frustrated...

Learned by accident that the genuine screwdriver that comes in the toolkit is actually a two-in-one (flat and Phillips). I compared the one from the A2 with that from our Polo and saw that one was a flat screwdriver and the other a Phillips screwdriver. I noticed that one of them sat slightly higher in the handle, so I started fiddling with it. The top bit came out, first reaction "Oh no, I've broken it..." Then, and quite quickly I noticed that by turning it around, I had a two-in-one screwdriver.

Thanks Keith I can see how it works - I'll have to pop to the main dealers for that one then!
