Today I.....

That's impressive ! I'm averaging 60-62mpg from mine with a mixture of motorway and town/traffic jam on my daily commute . That's me sitting about 60-70mph as well. What speed were you doing ?
Mostly doing 60 mpg, just faster than the lorries. It was an OK journey from Skipton via Grantham until we hit the M25, horrendous as always on a Friday. We were hoping it was going to be quieter with the "fuel crisis".
I personally have only ever managed just shy of 70mpg.

Today I gave the tdi red eye a little boost around empty roads, man the joy this thing gives!
Does anyone suffer from the front brakes getting really hot though? Brand new ones on there and slideer pins but after just two maybe three hard stops they are boiling ? ?

I would check by driving when you know the brakes are cool and can give it a run of a few miles roll to a stop if poss and check to see if they are hot then. After braking a few times does one side feel hotter than the other? Does the car pull to one side if you hold the steering wheel very lightly?
Jack up and turn the wheel in both directions do they feel right to turn?

Hi - they feel brilliant to be fair to them pulls to stop straight and spin freely just got really hot really quick. Maybe just a bit rubbish venting by design. I should drive more carefully ? perhaps

What pads are you using out of interest? Sounds like they’re excellent at doing the job they should be doing - converting motion into heat!

Old brake fluid

Today I spent some time messing with recently acquired VCDS on Smurf.
Am learning how to use it to get rid of the big flashing logo on the dis. So, changed Stop Switch and Steering Angle Sensor, which got rid of most faults, but left with those below. Just have the ABS warning on in the Speedo.
Any advice would be greatly on cures appreciated!

I recall when buying my A2 in 2004 I read that A2 suffered from warped disks caused (I think) by keeping the foot on the brake after a hard stop (e.g. while at traffic lights). On the other-hand I don't recall the topic ever coming up on the forum, so maybe old wives tale (or is the politicall incorrect saying nowadays!).

I was told exactly this very recently and now I’m paranoid about doing it on each section of the ring road, 1.5-2mile squirt 10 times over daily

Took the newly acquired a2 for mot expecting probs as it’s been a lemon ?..shock straight through and my guru even cured the fluctuating temperature new thermostat now sticks to bang on 90 deg ...so although not the Best Buy by any means it’s going to be a reliable winter hack ..with heated seats ?

Will try again, but had the airbag and wheel out twice when fitting a new Steering Sensor. Did it twice as assembled loosely to make sure Steering Sensor was OK.

Well after chuffing about, checking wiring, have found horn doesn't work either. So fitted a spare Steering Sensor, and the abs lights came back on, but the horn worked!
Back to square one if anyone has any ideas?

Try a different steering wheel and airbag to try and ‘isolate’ the fault?
