Today I.....

Good point and I will take this very seriously; there was a spate of Bus Stop Flag Posts in London a while back.

Problem got so bad that parts of London don't use the 'Truform'® designed poles anymore... 😱
Last time metal prices went high I remember the road grid drain covers going missing.
I saw one guy looking upset as he had gone over a missing manhole ,(PC personhole) cover in the road which had taken out a couple of his tyres / wheels on his way into work.

Alison's front dampers have been replaced. A significant improvement in ride and handling, actually.

A couple of other little bits done too.

Faircrouch Garage, Wadhurst is a place I'd highly recommend.

Also had a quote for some bodywork as Alison is sorted mechanically.

Obviously a trip to the coast was necessary to test the dampers and stuff... 😁
Hi. I see your A2 has done over 250,000 miles. That's impressive even for a TDI - is it the original engine?

PS You need to update your profile as it says "Mileage 126K - 150K" but I see you're on the 200k club - that's the important bit!

Realised at the weekend that I can't find the bolts for my summer wheels. Wife's car has new Primacy 4s, mine has its Turanzas back (wow, they are quiet!) and despite the speed limits, consumption is back below 6l/100. Nice.
Now to find some bolts for teh TD rims... or an alternative set of rims. Tyre place wanted €100 and they don't really sit properly thanks to the design of the centre bore.

..jacked it up, wheels off, dropped the undertray, removed wipers, scuttle, cabin air intake and discovered the whole back of the engine and lower boost pipe to intercooler are flooded with oil. Its in the garage to find the leak Monday so saved myself a few quid by stripping it down. It's likely the cam cover as was fitted brand new 6 months ago and no doubt not fitted right. I really hate the way you can't get to the cover bolts on the back such an easy job made hard. Curse you a2!!

I have the workshop guide to refitting cam cover and new garage seem sympathetic. If the oils coming from somewhere else then this could be final straw for me!

Today I fitted a new Meyle Camshaft Position Sensor to our 2003 1.4 SE Petrol then dared to it out for the first proper run since I Ruptured my Right Achilles Tendon 12 Weeks ago today. Timmus had Scanned it for a Starting Fault about a month ago. Codes were for both Camshaft and Crankshaft Position Sensor Faults. Could not pin it down to which one as they should work together with the ECU. If one is Faulty then the ECU sees both as Faulty. Anyway, drove up the M6 to Tebay. Spent a couple of hours Strimming at our Daughters house then drove back down the M6. No problem, except for the usually present Amber Emissions Lamp !

Is there a way to permanently turn the Amber Emissions Lamp off ?

Go Steady ? So glad they said I could finally remove the Ossur Rebound Air Walker Boot and throw away the Crutches I’ve done a bit of Mowing, Strimming, Chainsawing. Driven the A2, A6, 1972 VW Type 3 Variant and 1966 Beetle. Far too much, probably. Hoping to be Cycling ASAP, Kendal Dry Slope Skiing again by September ?

re-registered the A2. Can't get 2 of the damned bolts out of the rear wheel. Can't even loosen them. I've broken a 17mm socket and bent the wife's solid steel wheel brace doing it and I didn't have another 17mm for my 500mm breaker bar. So I've put it back on the road and driven it gingerly from my offspring's flat to mine and I'll take it to the tyre place in the morning where they can complete the job, hopefully without breaking any bolts.

I finally got all the parts and found time to test the setup for DRL retrofit with lower luminosity on front headlights. Sadly the test was not good, because the temperature on the gretz bridges climbed up to 110 degrees C, which is way to much that I would be comfortable to install into the car. And that is despite installing them on the alu heat sink with temperature paste.
Looks like I will need to be satisfied with drl with 100% luminosity :(, although I am really disappointed, because I have already everything prepared for installation, together with the holder, etc...

Gretz brigdes used simply as diode forward voltage drops? Would mean six such drops in series if I guess correct? Which voltage drop does that give you in Volts?

Yes, I have 3, each should drop voltage for 0,7V.
I did a few tests and this configuration would give me the desired drop in luminosity.

I'll investigate, and let you know.
Mac.
Something like this would do it, I think. You need the high power, as each lamp draws about 5 amps, at 12 volts. Not sure of current at 9 volts, but you can measure it with your original diode reducer. I expect it to be less than at 12 volts.
Mac.

Thank you. You are right about high power, this is a must. When I was looking for this solution I found only 2A suitable for LED lights.
I will look into it. Thank you again.

I recalibrated my Colour DIS’ MPG calculation to correct the 12% pessimism I’ve noted previously between what it thinks the car consumes and the calculated actual figures noted at the pump - I’ve just arrived in Reading town centre travelling up from my home in east Devon in the first business trip of many I will be doing in Audrey - which is what I originally bought the car for. Mostly M4 / M5 doing 65-68mph with cruise control on, here are the stats from the trip - happy with that in terms of MPG:

I think if I turned off the a/c and also actually used my right foot to allow speed to drop off and gather going up or down inclines then I could have perhaps got 67mpg or so. But I wanted to just relax and enjoy the drive listening to some embarrassingly classic / cringey music (Enya!!!) through the Bose-enabled Concert 2 CD player.

With the new armrest being fully utilised both in terms of comfort and also the extra storage it gives (ideal for takeaway essentials such as ketchup and sugar sachets, stirrers and wet wipes / napkins by the way!), the multifunction steering wheel and Bluetooth connection allowing me full control of both the stereo and incoming phone calls without my hands needing to leave the wheel, plus the PTW gearbox giving a quiet, relaxed air in the cabin on the motorway, this little car really is just as comfortable and up to date as any modern - plus its so much more satisfying to drive.

Alight alright, don't rub it in!! Made it sound like a Rolls Royce 😆 🤣 . Armrest really is a luxury item.
