How did you know that's gonna fit? I thought, after reading topics about it, the gear knob must have a certain shape, hence universals not suppose to fit? Cheers

Thankfully it had multi fit options so was not problem.
Came with the inserts for 5 & 6 speed and different reverse layouts
Just recalled its richbrook make very similar to this but not ford obviously.

Today I,
collected my new to me Tdi. Few problem showed up on the way home, new thermostat required. Slow puncture Front NS tyre. Strange noise on the overrun.
Also had my first ride in a !.2 TDi courtesy of @Erlingtheyounger, nice to meet a fellow forum member and all-round good chap!
Sadly not quite as good as I had hoped for!

…finally got round to investigating the cause from the irritating chattering/tinkling noise that seemed to come from behind the dash, and had done so for a long time. When my wife complained about it I really had to do something. a quick search on the forum for “chattering” came up with a potential culprit of the plastic cups into which the bonnet catches slide. I discovered my offside one was indeed rather loose, so I managed to slide a couple of thin slivers of plastic underneath it. Took it for a test drive not seriously expecting any difference but hey presto the noise has vanished altogether 😀. Result! Couldn’t believe something so small could make such a persistent noise.

Well everyone it’s happened - a “failed to proceed”.

Particularly cruel timing as I was on my way home from Bracknell, where I had attended my grandmother’s funeral, to Devon via Bristol - stopped for a bite to eat, 20-25 mins later came out to the car and it won’t even try and start - all lights come on and go out as they should, headlamps go out when I turn the key to “start” but nothing else happens, no clicks - nada.

Thanks to @timmus for being for being available to troubleshoot - I even tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting a couple of minutes later as inexplicably the car forgot the date and I had to reset it and re-synch the key earlier this week - but the fault appears to be with the starter motor itself or it’s circuit. So the breakdown service is on its way and the car will be recovered straight to my garage of choice - then a taxi home. It’s already a long evening….

SORTED. Breakdown man gave the starter a clout and she’s off!

Note to self: buy a new starter.

Yip a nice wooden stick and something to hit it with. Time for an auto leccy shop and a refurb of your starter. 👍
Well another work trip to Cambridge on Monday means no time for that, a new one is going on by end of the week.

This car is my work car and hence Indont mind spending good money on a permanent, quick solution to a problem to remove any doubt over it’s dependability

Be nice little garage project to keep old one and refurb it yourself, sell on or keep spare

I've realised that today marks 1000 days since I became the owner of an A2. Rather than pamper it, I parked it in the middle of a muddy field to watch the National Ploughing Championships! Think it will deserve a clean as I start a second 1000 days of ownership tomorrow. No picture of the car today, so just a rather fine furrow:

MoT pass on Friday but I'd be grateful if someone could clarify the emissions requirement.
The official limit for our cars is on the sticker, but the MoT tester is not allowed to lift the carpet to view it - just as well considering what the sticker says. So the limit used is a default limit. Every year until 2017 that's been 3.00 m-1 but since then it's been 1.5 m-1. I looked on the Govt website which says "For vehicles first used before 1 July 2008, the maximum level is ..... 3.0 m-1 for a turbocharged engine" yet the MoT tester insisted it was 1.5 m-1.
Which is right?
Either way no problem for me as the level on Friday was 0.97 m-1, less than last year.
Thanks.

Today I mostly fettled about swapping a squeelin starter motor, off with the old and on with my refurbed one.
All good to go, battery reconnected, key in, turn.........nothing, not even a click.
Scratches head under me hat and nearly burst into tears.

Starter off, bench tested it, works fine.
Back on again, as before, nowt, nadda, zilch.

Scratches head again, then thought, lets check cable earths, sure enough, I'd not even put the strap onto the bolt behind the headlight.
Sorted that out and put key in, turns and joy of joys the engine spun over.

Now there is an add on here that is very puzzling.

This A2 developed a hard starting issue where if it was pointed uphill, it was a b****r to start, over the last couple of days, it's been up on quite tall ramps so I could get under it to drop the starter motor out.
When I put the key in and turned it I really just thought it would now turn over and that would be it, but no, the engine fired up on the first crack, bit clacky for a couple of seconds due to the oil being at the back of the sump but non the less, it started.
Very strange indeed.
Any thoughts?
