Today I.....

I also changed my gearbox oil to try the cure a notchy change.
What came out was like chocolate sauce, put Westway MT-90 back in, to flush. Will leave it for a couple of thousand miles then drain again.
Took it for a 5 mile run and the improvement was good already, much smoother
I was thinking of doing the same, is it a fiddly job?

Today I machines out a total of 7 tdi egr valves
4 AMF and 3 BHC/ATL so plenty of stock available now
Yesterday I pained another batch of 8 wiper arms a mix of hook and aero so again stock of both types is currently available
I have also just finished 18 front door check straps as stock was very low on these
Quite a productive few days

Last weekend I machined a batch of 20 diesel drain screws so there are plenty available now

A few more to add to the To Do list. 👍

Hm...
I've seen something similar under my hood all covered in oil and mush before the EGR removal. Had to wash it before repeated MOT.
I thought my turbo was breathing its last but the mechanics who removed the valve told me that it was the culprit and the turbo was OK.
The valve is situated between the exhaust manifold and the turbo?

No, not and all. Providing your drain and fill plugs come out ok. Mine did, luckily.
You did need to lower the Dog Bone mount though to enable you to get to the drain plug.
I refilled mine with a litre jug with a long length of hose into the filler hole.

Sounds like it had water ingress.

Today, I was driving along minding my own business when the beep of doom went off - yet there was no warning message and I’ve got over 3/4 tank of fuel!

Random….

EDIT: just arrived after a journey of 120 miles or so over undulating dual and single carriageway A roads and CDIS tells me Audrey has sipped just over 7.5 litres of fuel and returned 71.5mpg!

EDIT #2: The car did the return journey at 70.5mpg including a stop in Amesbury town centre to do some shopping - total distance today of 345 miles. What a car!

The best testers of any equipment. How far does this go before it breaks, why does in not go backwards etc. 😭🤣
I remember when we were still in Singapore and I was reading up on potential family cars so we could buy one and have it delivered ready for our return: It came down to either the Citroen Space Tourer / Grand Picasso or the current shape Touran (it had to be a MPV as I can’t stand SUVs) - what firmly swung it in favour of the Touran was the specific comment by one tester that said he thought the interior should put up with the abuse children dish out to car interiors pretty well!

My pet peev is the windows - the kids love continually winding them up, down, up, down….. and then the window lock button comes on!

Yeah...
As opposed to the first Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra. :D
You don't have to be a kid to bust out the speaker grills off their doors. :D
I had my hands on a Touran (the skew-eyed one) though as I don't have kids, I can't tell its strength against them. But I did notice that its interior is quite sturdy.
But A2 is also not a loser at this. At least not like the same Sharan, a knitted nose Scénic/plastic Espace or hammerhead Pontiac Trans Sport. :)

This morning I've had a bonding session with my Cobalt FSI.

While so different from the TDI's I'm used to, I really appreciate the smoothness of the engine and gearchange, and I'm enjoying the slightly strange feeling like I'm in a larger car than the TDI - when you're not just pootling along, quite soon you're going faster than you thought you were trying for, but without it having felt like you were really on the way there.

I've more than quadrupled the total distance I've driven her, and had a good play with the right-hand side of the rev counter (nnniiiiiiiiiiccccee :D). She obviously likes me too as I was rewarded with a smiling yellow EML a short while later  just in time for the MOT next week  !

However, 10 minutes after getting back home and watching @timmus' extremely useful video the issue was sorted by fitting the ProBoost ECU I grabbed when the chance came up recently. If anything, she's now even smoother under 3k revs, the very slight hesitation/non-linear power delivery is gone, but with no loss of pull. At some point it would be interesting to scan the original ECU to find out what the fault was.

Since it's not going to stop raining after this afternoon, she'll never make it to the Silverstone meal still looking clean, so I'm just going to keep on using her for now while the traffic's lighter with the Easter holidays. Looking forward to getting her back off the drive already :)
