Today I took the A2 for 2 New Meyle Front Struts I bought to be fitted. Ended up it also needs 2 Front Lower Suspension Arms because they are rotten. Had to let the Garage supply them at double the price I could buy as A2 is in bits and blocking their lift.

Morning all,

Today I… Have spent an hour doing one of my less favourite task; removing previous adhesive from a Votex kit:

Please excuse the early autumn debris from the hedge in the pile of TigerSeal. That’s the next body kit about to be prepared for painting.

Kind regards,

Tom

It looks in good condition, has cruise control, air con, and rear PDCs, it’s not a low mileage example, but as it’s a TDI it probably has plenty of life left

I think it’s not an unreasonable price, if it’s got a good service history and has been maintained properly.

Check the usual stuff of course;
-No suspension knocks/ noises
-Engine/gearbox/clutch runs smooth with no funny noises
-Check the under boner drain cups are present, as if missing the bonnet will drip water into the gearbox.
-check the condition of the wishbones, if it has the later style pressed steel ones then these have a tendency to rust from within.

Thanks for the replay, distance on odo is in kilometers. I red abot wb but im not familiar with drain cups?
Ahh of course, in that case 160k km is looking a lot more attractive.

These are the bonnet drain cups, this picture is an AUA 1.4 Petrol, not a TDI, but the cups are in the same locations. This is also a RHD car.

If the one above the gearbox is missing, then this can lead to the gearbox filling up with water on the TDI engines (on the petrols the gearbox shift tower doesn’t line up so is less of a problem)

Of the one above the alternator is missing then it instead drips water onto the alternator.

This is based on my experience with RHD A2s, I don’t know for sure how it all lines up on LHD cars, but worth checking.

Not sure the pictures do the wheel justice. It’s come from a 13K miles A3 and has cleaned up perfectly. Such a beautiful wheel for this awesome car. Extremely happy with this. That’s it; no more steering wheel swapping for quite some time!

Kind regards,

Tom

A modern day twist that suits the 'classic' lines of the A2's dashboard very well. I say classic, but in truth it amazes me just how modern the A2 looks to this day and how well advanced the design was for its time. A truly underappreciated package by many. Nice job, Tom.

Evening Edd,

Thank you very much Sir. I’m utterly in ore in how it looks. Just this minute got back from a short drive and it feels and looks absolutely lovely. Extremely happy.

Kind regards,

Hello Darren,

It’s been a while Sir and I’m ecstatic to see you back on these pages. Thank you for the kind words and welcome home by the way!

The new wheel does look and feel exactly how I had hoped; after peeking out the windows all morning waiting for it to be delivered haha. Knowing this option wouldn’t be for everyone, I think the aesthetics are quite pleasing and it blends in to the cabin superbly. Really lifts the interior.

Nice to hear from you again.

Kind regards,

Tom

Today Oskar got a clean sheet. Again.....
I'm not doing many miles though, and a lot of parts have been replaced, so I should not really expect any fails, but I think this shows the quality of the underlying engineering and design. And lack of rust!!

So far today I have finished fixing the handbrake on my TDI90, turned out one side was seized and the other was missing the spring for the cable return, as well as the slide plates. One new caliper, discs, pads and slides and it's good as new.

Also been out and done an oil and filter change, I just need to bleed the front brakes cos the fluid is nasty.

Lovely car to drive, I just need to sort out the front passenger door micro switch - it's only resulted in me being locked out of the car once, but it did mean a 5 hour round trip to get the spare and get back in 🤦🏻

In advance of meeting @2work at my house tomorrow evening I had a long overdue tidy up of the front part of the garage so we have a dry and well lit spot to sort out the CCCU on the project Silver FSI and more importantly make a plan for some upgrades on Betty

Pulled the project car out the garage after months of sitting

Oil leak has been added to the list….
