Today I.....

Today I covered 425 miles between Cornwall and Newcastle @75.5mpg, nice, that thermostat definitely made a difference, not sure on the BP Ultimate, will use supermarket for the home trip to compare.

Will be interesting as I have never found any appreciable difference but I only ever use Tesco std diesel or shell std diesel

After cleaning the gunk out the fuel filter housing I just thought it would be wise to clean the fuel system, although I’m never quite sure if it is a good idea to “clean” the fuel or turbo as I guess the loosened gunk just gets released into the cylinder, who knows? Either way my Seat with the 1.9 tdi vv always runs better after a tank of premium stuff and a good 3rd gear thrash.

I think its the 'drive it like you stole it' that makes the difference.
My old TDI with 272K miles on it always ran well, but it was really sweet after a day trip to A2steve in south wales and back in the same day, just on 440 miles round trip. 80 miles of fast motorway then the rest on great A & B roads, 1/2 a tank of fuel there and noticeably less coming back.

Tesco bought ESSO some year ago so I think its the best of the super market fuels. Shell Std diesel gets be at least an extra 20 miles per tank

I seem to recall someone on here saying 228Kg, but that is from memory
not including any removable bits like door tailgate etc

So I'm 1500 miles into a holiday to italy in the a2 and whilst in florence I've managed to go over my ankle badly due to a slip on a wet pavement.

My wife is not happy but I cant use my left foot on the clutch so she may need to drive on the next stint to meta near sorrento...joy!!

Sounds painful. And the ankle will be sore as well

Today I will be having the white TDI roof wrapped in gloss black , only concern is he thinks the gutter strips will need removing, I know its doable but would rather not if possible, A2 Steve says it is and ive read this thread.

Better get a wiggle on and get down there, has to be done by noon .

The blend of fuel (base stock + additives) that super markets sell, is very different to the blend sold under the oil cos own name. Super market fuel is cheaper for a reason, it's not got the wizzy (and expensive) additives. I'd rather pay 10p extra per litre at the pump, than many hundreds of pounds for repairs (to my 1.6 FSI). But, that's just me. Mac

What about Super market fuel plus some brand of additive put in every few weeks, I use diesel redex every so often myself?

I get what you are saying, but I regularly see the tanker that goes to Tesco's also drooping off fuel from the same tanker to the local ESSO station about 1/2 mile away - hence I'm sure it is the same fuel from both stations
