Today I.....

Just noticed my question read wrong, i meant to say or was it autocorrected?, are these speakers compatible ie; will they work with the A2 Bose system?
I believe the Bose system has 1 ohm drivers. Reading Ersten's convo from a while back, it explains what I figured when thinking about this last night: there's a lot of marketing in this. 200W is 200W, but into 1ohm vs 4 ohms is a big difference. Lower impedance means higher current needed for the same output power but the speakers are by definition less efficient. So it's not as loud. It also appears that the Bose does equalization in the amp itself. Which is the probably not just for the car, but also for the crossover and the characteristics of the drivers.
Short version: maybe, but it will probably sound awful. A Gzha mini four or focal impulse 4.320 will probably do well.

I fitted some of these to my A2 and they came off again very quickly. They were far too heavy and rubbed against the front inner wheel linings on full lock. Coincidentally the power steering warning light also came on as well......the car was in effect telling me to take them off. ?
Yes, I believe the offset is much higher, et44 I think, so 10mm or so spacers would be require to bring it back down to 34 which is nice for the A2 although 5mm spacers would probably be ok too ?

This morning I removed the Double DIN Dashboard from the breaker followed by the complete Bose Loom for @timmus.

All 4 doors prepared for removal and collection tomorrow by @SID.

OSS is unbolted and ready to lift off just tomorrow morning.

All ready for the A2 to be removed from my driveway tomorrow afternoon, big smiles on my wife’s face!

Kind regards,

Tom

Been a busy boy Tom ?

It has Steve, still not finished yet.

I know have the dilemma of the steering lock not disengaging with the key. The wheel is turning but it is such a slow process. My arms are now pumped larger than my thighs. Just having a break as it’s taking all my strength for just a little turn. Need the car moved for the truck tomorrow.

I have thought of putting a bar through the Swing steering wheel to assist but scared to damage it as it’s sold waiting for collection.

Kind regards,

Tom

Coming soon to a Cobalt TDI near me ;)

Having coveted a set of these SE 5-spokes for a while, I managed to pick up the bare rims before lockdown started. I've had to wait until we were free enough to travel and meet again before I could make space to store the wheels with tyres on that are coming off the car. Actually the TT 16" rims currently on the Cobalt one are going on this Crystal one again, and its Pepperpots with Cross-Climates are what are going in the garage ready for next winter.

Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the Crystal car in this photo still has its blue armrest doorcards as per my signature, but the blue Satellite SE seats have been replaced by black leather Sports seats (the ones I'd recently tried in the Cobalt one with its mixed Twist/Soul interior). I think it's going to stay like this now - the armrests and some blue-edged floormats put just enough colour into the interior.

Those will look awesome, Ian. My personal favourite, after the 17" Sport wheels, of course.

Good time to take out the fan and remove all the fuses.
I'm sure there is other stuff as well like the indicator relay if it's still in there.

Today I achieved the highest milage from a full tank.
The beep actually went off around the395 mile point so decided that it really needed some fuel ⛽
Astonishingly there was very little motorway driving since I filled it up due to not being able to travel long distances during the early days and weeks of the lockdown. Mostly short trips for essentials.
Since buying this particular A2 I have never got this on a full tank.
I genuinely put this down to changing the thermostat, and temp sensor along with an oil and filter change, both oil and air filters.
Also changed all the suspension and drop links but I don't think that will have altered the MPG.
This is the 1.4 TDI 75 on a 55 plate.
I knew something had changed because I genuinely thought that the fuel gauge was stuck after covering around 150 miles the gauge had only dropped to the three quarters mark.

Well done, it’s always satisfying to feel good maintenance is being rewarded! Like you I’ve got a 1.4 TDI but I always get at least 480 miles out of a tank and my best yet is 530 (though on a long, break and traffic free run for 400 of those tbf) so I’m sure this is just the start! ?

I just brimmed one of mine tonight on 448 miles (25 miles after the beep) - but that's an early one with the 34L tank. Got 33 litres in with the vent, which came out at 61.7mpg or so, calculated. I'd expect 500 miles out of a tankfull on my other daily with the 42L tank like yours, and more if I could get it, but it seems harder to get it do the economy (possibly because it revs so sweetly :D). I do journeys of nearly all 20+ miles at a time, mixed town ,country and dual carriageway but nearly always moving.

Talking of fuel consumption I had a thought.

I am retired and do next to miles per week, one food shop per week say 10 miles. Three months lockdown zero miles with family initially delivering shopping and then supermarket deliveries. My thought: I have not put any fuel in this YEAR!

Cheers Erling.
Just to add, the car had a stealth map a number of years ago.
Having the luxury of driving two other A2s I own, I have been doing comparisons.
I will post the results later.

So this morning was spent removing the final parts from my (used to be beautiful) Ebony Black 1.4 BBY A2. It’ll be collected in the next couple of hours.

Also had a visit from @simufly to drop off 2 OSS Headlining Biscuits for reupholstering. This is a service I might start up for members unless @Kleynie already does this when repairing BSS’s.

Kind regards,

Tom

That would be an interesting one Tom, more power to you! I will watch and wait with interest. If you (or indeed @Kleynie) should get to a stage where you have stock of refurbished ones, and can remove a drooping one and fit a refurbished one for a visiting member, that would be well worth knowing about ?

Hi Tom
Does this mean you do a re trim service on shabby headlining?
thanks

I can think of a few members who would be interested in that service.

My dis has been calibrated on a fill of the tank calculation basis and I’m consistently seeing 67mpg and that is on all local small runs no motorway trips at all
Again well services A2 tdi with recent suspension upgrade and 15” wheels but I think the game changer has been the jdd gearbox fitted early lockdown
The gearing just suits the A2 much better than the original box all be it with a remap
I’m on a 34 litre tank also and normally run from full to the beep beep beep and normally around the 440 miles on the trip when filling up which is normally around the 28 to 29 litre mark depending on if I burp the tank or not
I also use shell std diesel and have found it to make a different of around +20 miles per tank over the supermarket fuels with the exception of Tesco diesel which does about the same as shell per tank
