Brilliant,The easiest way is with the hub off, sorry. You fit the slave cylinder to the back plate, assemble the shoes and springs complete, attach the hand brake cable, then fit the upper ends into the recess of the slave cylinder pistons, then hook them over the lower fixed point. Fit the retaining pins through the back plate and then fit the hub. Cover with the drum then bleed / flush the brakes and clutch slave. Make sure the handbrake is working correctly and is adjusted as follows
The handbrake must be adjusted after charging/adjusting the service brake system. The service brake system must be fully functional.
The handbrake cables must not be under tension.
Resetting is only required after replacing the handbrake cables, the brake carrier or brake pads.
- ‒ Release handbrake.
- ‒ Remove the rear storage compartment.
- ‒ Firmly press brake pedal several times.
- ‒ Pull handbrake lever 4 notches.
- ‒ → Tighten adjusting nut -arrow- until both wheels are difficult to turn by hand.
- ‒ Release handbrake and check, whether both wheels can spin freely. If necessary, screw back adjusting nut slightly.
Oh no!! Sorry to hear this Mihai. You may notice a little creasing above the black plastic where the outer bumper skin deforms around the aluminium crash bar underneath, also the sides may appear 'popped out' along the top edge if the impact was hard enough. If they won't go back in and stay in, new side mounts (triangular plastic things with lugs) may be needed hold them in the correct position....my little A2 was rear ended in the most stupid way...while waiting in traffic, the guy said his "foot slipped" (WTF?!)
In spite of a pretty nasty shock which nearly gave me a heart attack, the car seems fine from what I could gather, apart from the aftermarket parking sensors sticking out a bit, which I just pushed back. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for?
Sorry...promise there will be a positive post from me on this thread tomorrow!
Thanks a lot Ian!! I'll have a good look tomorrow in daylightOh no!! Sorry to hear this Mihai. Alison's interior dried out quickly! These were taken after a night out, so apologies for the quality....gave Alison her delayed interior. Lord Boots is seen checking my work. Also, the Passenger Side Courtesy Mirror Lamp Lenses fell off! Anyone got a spare?
Hi. How did you clean the carpets may I ask? I just cleaned mine today - the first time for 16 years!!! OCD's here will have a heart attack The car does get regularly vacuum but when I got the A2 15.5 years ago it had proper Audi mats fitted and since then I've always had another set of cheaper "disposable" mats on top that get replaced every 1 or 2 years. Anyway, I had some vanish carpet cleaner and used that, but it's difficult to see if it lifts any dirt. Maybe next time I will hire a steam cleaner, preferably where I can easily see how dirty the used water is (the carpets are dark grey - wish I had the beige carpets so I can see if they need cleaning).Alison's interior dried out quickly! Hi Alan, I used a Rug Doctor Machine which I hired from Homebase. The machine is excellent. You'll need to use the extra cost Upholstery Attachment.
Although the chemicals might appear expensive, the Anti Foam will do at least four treatments; the cleaning chemicals at least two per bottle.
The rental cost me £24.99 although I've yet to get my deposit back. Till went down yesterday and they would only offer me a Store Voucher...
I'll hire from another Chain next time...
Rug doctor spot cleaner portable new in Argos now £129.99
