Today I.....

I find it so strange the A2 never came with Pepper pots from new - they look so right on the A2 and yet so wrong on the A3 that they were actually supplied on!
I completely agree, they seem to be perfect for an A2.

I just went a quick run to check they were balanced and was gobsmaked by the difference in the car. Gone was the rattly ride, all the little bumps were ironed out.

Couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve learned to love the look of them but the difference in the ride has transformed my dolphin grey one which is on sport suspension.

Front bumper and fogs now fitted...
Slowly getting the colour coding complete, though am tempted to keep the sills black... ?

IMHO, from a visual/ design perspective, the black sills really help keeping the body somehow lighter and more streamlined. The A2 naturally tends to be a bit of an easter egg and the black sills, especially on lighter colours, reduce this effect and provide a much needed contrast.

My car is black, should i get silver sills?? Lol

Today I ..... was very lucky and found a second set of Pepperpot's for my project car Letty. They are light and now I have set for summer and another for winter use.... and it feels good :)
Should have gone this route many years ago ??

Always best to have two sets with the correct tyres for the season if you have the space to store the spares

I have full winter Dunlop 4D on the Porsche and have to store my 21” summers along with a spare 17” sport wheel for the A2’s. I have them outside under a purpose made cover and a large padlock!
Didn’t have chance to test the winter wheels in the snow as we opted to walk instead due to current restrictions.

Today I found Out that emptying Out the rear seats and Other heavy Things in the Back of a TDI90 is Not exactly advantageous on snow.

Was rather surprised when at 15 mph the rear tried to overtake in a snowy roundabout, don't think I've had to re-grip the steering mid corner like in a Drift car before. ?

Interestingly, 500m later, when trying to replicate the move in an open space, with the Handbrake pulled slightly, the ESP pretty much just stopped the Car while it did not react at all to the drifting in the roundabout. ?

Maybe time for some new rear Winter tyres, apparently 4mm can be marginal in snow.

I think (read on a forum somewhere) that in Germany it’s verboten to let your winter tyres go below 4mm, so yes I’d agree, once this season is done and winter tyres are theoretically cheaper, replace with the best you can.

Today I paid a big bill for a new cam belt, water pump and thermostat for the 'new' A2. No other issues spotted apart from slightly sticky top mounts which I know about. While it was a bit painful, most of the cost was parts; only £150- for the labour.

The legal limit is actually 1.6mm while 4+mm appears to be recommended so not completely off the mark. Will probably look for new wheels for next winter anyways as the 15" A2 "snowflakes" don't look that great on the car, I can't find cheap centre caps for them for the life of me and 175/60, the only tyre choice, does not have a ton of options on the market.

Does anyone happen to have seen white pepperpots to photoshop on the car? ?

What wheels do you have now? I’m not familiar with the term “snow flakes”.

If the standard 15” 5.5J alloys, then @depronman can make you some.

I guess the UK standard 15" wheel was the polished, forged type? In germany, one of the most popular option packages, "Style", had 6-spoke, fairly heavy wheels that look a bit like a snowflake and which have one-of-a-kind center caps not used on any other model. Currently ~120€ for a 4-pack on ebay. o_O

The german Wiki has all the available types, what you likely mean is the one titled "Schmiedeleicht" (?), while mine are "Style 6-Arm" (both under "15 Zoll") so I don't think replacements for them exist. (Plus the issue of TÜV as 3d printed or simillar replacements won't have a part number ?)

Unfortunately the "Style" centre caps either rot (theyre made from aluminium that oxidises when the clear laquer on it fails leading to terribe looks) or the hooks on them break so they fall off so pretty much none on the used market either if you don't want to spend hundreds on a full set of wheels..

Yes your thinking is correct. The std A2 wheel in the uk was the 15” 5.5J forged alloy wheel chrome finish 7 triangular cutouts with a centre cap from memory 57mm diameter
They are a nice light wheel

So today , or rather Sunday

I had the pleasure of meeting @timmus once again for the installation of heated seat wiring looms

It was a joy to see the master at work , on what was a bitterly cold day . Watching Tom remove the bulk of the cars interior, in next to no time , without the nasty sound off breaking plastic trim clips was a joy !

Tom , as always was a true expert , happy to share his knowledge, and skills while I watched him work .

As expected , it all went together and worked perfectly, I now very close to completing my dream spec car !
