Today I.....

I am on the wrong laptop to be able to look the original rear spring tables I compiled up but 339mm is from memory the height of the front springs - I have one pdf of the front spring table on my desktop and 330-340mm seems to cover a lot of the non-sport or 1.2tdi front spring aftermarket options.

Having said that, a quick look on autodoc for springs, rear shows that there are two standard lengths commonly supplied - one around 305mm (possibly sport spec?) and the other 330 / 338 / 339mm long.

Is it possible that your car has inadvertently had the rears replaced with sport springs or the fronts replaced with SE at some point causing the visual imbalance?

New spring seats on mine raised the rear by a wee bit last summer so definitely something that needs to be done.
After last weekends stripdown at the back end I ordered a new rear brake kit and drums from GFS, came in at just under £100 my Bilstein rear springs from Spring-loaded had been delayed for weeks but of course arrived yesterday I have measured them and they are 328 mm or 30mm longer than the present ones on. I might as well go the whole hog and order both rear brake pipes so all will be new. Still hope to take out the rear axle beam at some stage to give it a good going over and a few coats of paint.

More of a 'this week I' than a 'today I' but anyway.

Finally got the car looked over by a mechanic I trust, hadn't been able to get to him due to Glasgows never ending lockdown (and a host of other issues). He gave the car it's first good service since I bought her (it seems the cowboys I got to service her at the start of the year didn't do half of what they said), replaced the rear rubber spring cups (the springs fell out as soon as he jacked the back up) new rear shocks and bump stops, replace a rear wheel bearing, and fixed the oil leak.

Then a trip down to motorway to see Timmus who fitted me up with Bluetooth and then proceeded to fix lots of little niggles around the car (some of which I hadn't even noticed until he pointed them out). He was an absolute star for putting up with me and in some absolutely miserable weather as well.

Long story short, it is like driving a different car. I am happier with my A2 than I have ever been and I was fairly happy to start with.

Today ( well yesterday Sunday ) I finally got Towbar fitted to my TDI 90. Refitted the bumper and replaced all the spire nuts on the near side wing/inner wing. I know the bumper will have to come off again to do the same on the offside ( didn’t have enough new spire nuts ) . Also identified a few more jobs . New rear bump stops needed, new brake splash plates and the rear brakes need a look at ,as the handbrake is a bit iffy ( pulls up easily but doesn’t feel smooth ).
I’ve also got a squeak on the rear suspension which I need to locate . Could be the main pivots ?

Just wanted to say a Huge thank you to @Bargepower again for not only picking up my sports wheels from @A2Steve but also driving all the way from london to margate to drop them off to me. Had a really nice chat and look at his A2 and given me some more energy to make mine look a bit cleaner and finish the little buts I’ve been meaning to do

Hi all, few days ago the OS electric window stopped working, so I disconnected the battery and window worked again.
The radio displayed SAFE, but I got 1 digit wrong and entered code wrong 2x...now it only displays SAFE and pressing TP and RDS to enter code does nothing. Disconnecting battery again doesn't help.

Any advice?

Afternoon,

I could be wrong but I think it’s Scan and RDS pressed together takes it out of Safe Mode. From there enter the PIN as you already know how to.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom

I've tried that too, still doesn't allow me to enter the code like before. Thanks anyway.

If you enter the wrong code 3 times I think a more complicated reset procedure may be needed.
The PDF was for my RNS-D unit but should apply to to similar vintage radio units

Cheers Spike

I've only tried it 2x, yet no reaction to any buttons pressed.

Im gonna try the "1 hour switched on and radio turned on too" as it said in the attachment, see it that helps. Thank you.

Evening all,

Today I am thrilled we have such a great community…

After my recent request for assistance on the ‘Are There Any Members In Scotland’ thread, @Neilf responded to my question of anyone near Motherwell.

This was to collect a Gumtree item in Motherwell that the seller wouldn’t post.

After a few PMs Neil, without taking any funds from me (although offered), drove to the Gumtree seller, paid for my item out of his own pocket and then sent it by DPD next day again out of his own pocket. I of course have reimbursed him accordingly.

This afternoon I received my bargain purchase:

The marks on the screen were just wipe marks and have totally disappeared.

This 2009 8J0035193 unit (no revision letter so is exactly the same as a 193B) functions perfectly and has already been updated to the latest Beta Firmware:

Very very happy with my purchase that would not have been obtainable without our amazing community spirited members.

I’ll swap the fascia in time before fitting into 250, another story for another day. For now I just want to thank @Neilf for helping me out, what a community we have. Neil you’re a legend Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Didn’t know one of those could be made too fit. Keep pushing those boundary’s @2work !!!

Today @Jellybean called over to collect some parts and also drop some off.

Part of the exchange means that I now have black leather and alcantara rear seats to go with my TT fronts and also a votex front valance to fit to my TDI.

This is the third time Bob has called and left with more money than he arrived with because I’ve bought items from him. That’s not how this works Bob!! ??
