Today I.....

Is the intercooler duct able to be fitted after putting the front bumper back on? Or would it need removing again before fitting it?
I believe it would require removing again which is why the garage didn’t replace the parts I already had…

Hi guys, does any know the exact measurement of the 1.4 petrol oil dipstick?

Not the whole lengths, but from the neck where it connect to the tube - until the middle of the bottom level reader, sowhere the oil should exactly be. Thanks a lot.

Failed it’s MOT today… ?

£208 for a new suspension arm on the front and it sounds like it’s going to need one on the other side, too. Advisory for misting on one of the front shockers, so could be time for a front end rebuild…

Today I,
Rebuilt the rear brakes on both sides. New hubs, bearings, discs and pads. 4 ½ hours all in. Very satisfying. Mintex discs and pads. Cleaned up and hammerited the trailing arms off the beam axle too. Not pristine, but the discs and pads were an advisory on last years MOT.

Afternoon,

Some great preventative maintenance there Matt. Looking real good.

Is it just me or do others look through people alloys to see how well they maintain/look after their vehicle. For what it’s worth, you get a full up pass from me Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thank you Tom,
Working through the list.
Bit by bit it will be improved and maintained.
So much still to do, but it’s satisfying to do it.
Next is the off side from a arm and console (NS already done. I’ve got one built up with poly bushes and a cast a arm, just waiting to unbolt and bolt up with a new drop link for good measure. Maybe next weekend.
Rear number plate lights too and a new twin horn to fit. Bit by bit.

Today Darren C fitted new number plate lights to Ethel and as you all know its not an easy job. I big thankyou to him for his kind efforts....very much appreciated and to his lovely wife Di for a breakfast. The complete repair kit for this work is no longer available to buy from dealers but a top tip is to have two new torx screws available that hold in the boot latch. Supplied by Crewe Audi for 38p and worth every penny to replace the rusty ones.

Having sold my TDI yesterday, I asked @Hef for a favour; whether I could borrow one of his fleet to keep me on the road for work until the weekend.

What I wasn't expecting, was him lending me his best example that's had thousands of pounds and a multitude of hours lavished on it.

I must say, being pulled along by the hybrid turbo, listing to a top end audio intall in a leather, wood and alcantara clad interior its a special place to be.

Will be sad to hand it back on saturday :)
That's a great colour ?

Today I had the pleasure of meeting @eminegee who came to collect some new wheels and kindly collected and delivered a new steering wheel I purchased at the same time. Thanks ever so much for your help Mark and I hope you enjoy many happy miles on your new sport wheels. ?

Evening all,

Today I…

Was not going to be beaten!

Finally, I have worked out how to separate the A2’s Sun Visors. On many occasions I tried to separate the 2 ‘sandwiched’ halves from the external perimeter which has just resulted in a mess and ruining a sun visor.

Only 30 minutes ago I though I’d try my trim removal tool, which I’ve not used for almost 10 years:

Using this tool I thought I’d go from the internal perimeter and seconds later it all came apart:

You’ll notice how many fixings there are which only a couple had adhesive on.

I unfortunately managed to cause a little damage as seen in the metal plate which the fabric is adhered to but that was before I employed the trim removal tool. I’m positive I can achieve a much better result next time round. That said I’m sure it would be concealed by new fabric.

This really is quite a step forward to enable an absolute perfect look whilst reupholstering the sun visors.

Hope this helps some of you out whilst I simmer in the background preparing to offer a reupholstery service. Please don’t bombard me with questions when I’ll be in a position to start as I just don’t know. Home, work and life must take a priority here and I’ll announce everything on a separate thread when the time is right.

For now, enjoy having a go yourselves.

Edit: just went back into the garage and separated the next sun visor in under a minute, no damage at all. As the saying goes… Its easy when you know how!

Kind regards,

Tom

I went on the internet and I found this, pure pornography - 2.0 tfsi quattro swap ?
I really miss Top Gear news :D

Also, fixed the front door check strap and realised that I shouldn't have lubricated the check strap rod.
During the time of use the rod get polished.
Once friction between the rod and rollers is lost, rollers don't turn and the rod just digs into the roller in one place.
So I sanded the rod in the vertical direction on both sides and now both rollers roll again :).

Evening all,

Taking my earlier Today I mention a little further…

I went ahead and attacked a sacrificial Platinum Sun Visor, the one I said took under a minute to separate.

Tapped the metal inset flat with a small hammer where is came slightly out of shape and cleaned it down. Elbow Grease cuts through the adhesive quite well then got an old scrapper into action for final cleaning. Tools used:

Here’s the metal plate as clean as I think it needed to be:

Applied the best colour match with the correct texture headlining fabric I’ve managed to locate so far then used superglue to adhere the 2 halves back together. Used some clamps to ensure a good bond:

You’ll see a few finger indents in the fabric, these will subside this evening and will have vanished by the time I fit it into 250 tomorrow.

I am so impressed with the results, stood here next to it I can say the finish is perfect and cannot beleive it’s taken me so long to understand that the Sun Visors can be separated.

If I manage to find some ’free time’ tomorrow I might have to remove Project OEMs sun visors as they are very dirty and sagging.

Kind regards,

Tom
