Today I.....

Today I got home, after a couple of days away, and found a parcel had been delivered from Crewe Audi. Its the last ever brand new headlight from Audi UK. I don't know whether to fit it next spring or just keep it as is. Thanks for it being well packaged Tom ? :)
It will look odd with just one new one. You could sell it to me - I don't mind an odd look - my wife says I'm odd ;)

Actually, headlights could be one of those things that causes the demise of the A2. I guess the headlights can only be sanded down so many times and that does nothing about the crazing within the plastic. Breakers like @SteveA2 need to lookout for reasonable headlights from A2s that have had a cosseted life in the big city rather than tearing up and down the motorway in all weathers.

Now, if the UK had converted to LHD back in the 70s, like Sweden, this wouldn't be a problem. Plenty of LHD headlights for sale.

Today I got the lawnmower out and gave our FSI spoiler a trim - a proper ‘green’ car ?

.....had a mixed result day with spanners I failed again to get egr valve off, one bolt close to the exhaust feed pipe, undid the egr exhaust feed pipe (he'll of a job)and it doesn't move out way so can't get it all free so cleaned what I could and put it all back together again. Nice new rubber seal on intake hose made a better fit.
Managed to see source of oil leak, two rear rocker cover bolts loose so nipped up, washer jet was leaking spray over gear cables so mended pipe, found the metallic rattle was cable bracket off the engine mount brace down by the selector tower, nut must have come off or forgot to refit when did clutch? Nice and quiet again.

Today I have been thinking about why on earth a new EV car needs a lead battery.World shortage of converters?

More to the point if we are seeing more electrical outages and having to fire up coal fired power stations because of the lack of wind and the cost of gas. How are we going to cope in 2035 when gas boilers are axed & EV vehicles (All types, buses. Trucks. Trains etc) need power too? Not sure the plan has been thought through. Perhaps we could go over to the Dearman engine. (British inventor).

Had a look at the Dearman engine, did not know it, but interesting to learn about!
Toyota`s main argument for not developing EV`s has been lack of battery efficiency, and even, that it was not space enough, to have cars standing still for charging."We will wait for solid state batteries, before we develop EV cars"
They changed their minds, and have developed their first all ev platform for a series of models recently.
I have never been a fan of Toyota.I can not recall they invented anything talented.
Maybe they make the next gen battery?

I am not worried about future supply of electricity, there is both political and commercial involvement to deliver enough to households and transportation.Maybe there will be some decades of turbulence around prices and priorities, hard discussions around the source for electricity etc.
I still think electricity is the path for most future mobility.

A lot to consider, but today, I was asking myself; why todays Ev's need a conventional 12v lead battery?

Today I took the battery out of the boot to put it on s trickle charge as Little Atom is off the road (MOT ran out in Aug) until I complete all of the work I have in mind for it. Since I bought it the CD works fine but radio reception was a poor 15 seconds at best. I started to look through the forum and was pointed towards the Ariel booster! In the boot. Never simple I have had a very small leak from the faulty OSS which has dripped into the boot via the rearmost O/S window near the boot hinge.
I have got the unit out and when opened up looks like this.

Anybody got one in a good working order?

It was yesterday but I change the fuel filter and took the car to the garrage for a puncture and wheel alignment. Im just at 1year of ownership so I really should do a 1 year report.

Today I added 70 nervous but happy and trouble free miles, gave her a decent valet and put 25 litres of premium (£1.63/litre?!!?) diesel in. 340 miles available on trip with snapped fuel sensor wiring seems good to me! Also (DON’T DO IT!) heard about an old friend who ran their Fabia tdi on cooking oil during the fuel crisis……I think I might have nightmares about that tonight ?

Actually I was under the impression it is not a ariel booster but more a kind of router, the ariel amplifiers (note plural) are in the boot lid. Its called a diversity unit and I am confident @Clackers or @A2Steve or @Ami will have one, get in touch if they do not respond to this.

What’s the part number and what does it look like? I might well have one.

How much?!

£1.46 near me - which is already insane!
