TomTom 5

Have now got TomTom 5. More differences from 3 than I was anticipating but at least it has got the M6 Toll on - but still not got the road outside the wife's place of work on it and it is older than the toll road.

Is fine except that I have not worked out how to get it to run with guidance off yet! Anyone else using it yet?

I received my set of update CD's last Friday, but haven't installed it yet.

Are you suggesting that the 'Turn off Guidance' menu option has disappeared?
Judging from the screenshots I've seen in the manual (which still is way to short and therefor rubbish, albeit better than the previous one!), there should be circumstances where TomTom thinks there is 'no route'. When's that then? After reaching your goal?

Found it this morning on the way to work - It greys out the map until it has a fix rather than planning from last location as TT3 does so you do not get access to all the menus til then. I should have sat in the car and worked through them rather than trying to review it and drive at the same time.

Oddly enough the vaunted post code search seems exactly the same as TT3 but you cannot do it from the enter address screen (unless |I have not found the right way yet!)

Although I don't care for postcode search, I too noticed (in the manual again, still not installed) that postcode entry was separate from address entry. Odd.

And about driving and operating tomtom at the same time: I'm just glad it doesn't switch off (most or all of) the controls when your speed isn't equal to zero! Better than most built-in navigation systems...

I have TT3 at the moment but how do you get the upgrade? Is it free?

Didn't you get an email from TomTom?

Anyway, if you go to the TomTom website (http://www.tomtom.com/shop/upgrade.php, upgrade page) you can look at the details.
I assumume users worldwide can upgrade through here, even though pricing is in euros (59 to be exact, excluding about 10 euro shipping costs).
So for 40 to 50 pounds you can be the owner of TT5 and (my main reason to upgrade) ALL of the european maps. That's a bargain, IMO, if you didn't own the EU maps yet.

Did not get an email... Grrr... But thanks for that. I will look into it.

Customisation of Menu's is possible but not in the same way as TT3 - see link http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=22522

Have now got this worked out (on an IPAQ 2210) and makes it much easier to use when the frequently used icons are on the first page - who were their product testers and why did they drop the menu customisation that TT3 has?
