Hi to all members, need some info about suspen'sion top bearings? I have just recieved my koni fsd's from France, now need to make arrangments;re fitting of same and from what i've been reading a lot of people have had problems with springs snapping etc,one member mentioned that the top bearings often start to seize up, so whilst I'm at it may as well replace bearings @ same time as having the koni's fitted, I do need to know what the bearing part no's are; my car A2 1.4 petrol 2001 reg, (Dont trust the stealer's) wish Haynes had produced manual/book I can't get on with the disc/ version very well hope one of you can help, thanks in advance to you all, cheers Alan.

Hello Alan,

Sorry to hear that you don't get on well with the disc parts manual - but here is the part number you need:

6N0 412 249C

You'll need 2 of them and yes, they're actually VW Polo parts!

Cheers,

Mike

That may have been me - I said I suspected it on my car, but on inspection of the part removed yesterday it would appear not to be seized, and that the only problem was the broken spring. I did update the thread to try to avoid a suspicion being seen as hard information :)

Having said that, it would be a false economy not to replace them. They don't last forever, they have crud, salt and grit thrown at them whenever it rains (look at my photos) and cost a lot in labour to replace compared to their cost, which is only £10 or so each before discounts.

answer to bearing request.

Morning SKIPTON1 Mike, would like to say Thank you for the part no's /as members say (you are a fountain of knowledge as usual).I'm going to try the VW spares dept instead of Audi's maybe cheaper! also thanks to MR k (Mark) it was your thread that I read :all be It was a while ago! and my memory recall is fading fast, not forgetting i'm a Victor Meldrew to a tee!! have a great day everyone thanks again, Alan.

You're welcome Alan - here's a little experiment for you:

Phone up Audi first and ask for a price and availability of the part, quoting that number, then do the same for VW and see if there is a differential.

Cheers,

Mike

audi v vw spare part?.

Hi Skipton01(Mike),tried your suggestion and guess what: both came up with the same price! £9.27 each + vat, thats a surprise! so now we know, purchased two, thanks again, Alan.

No worries Alan - it seems that on this occasion at least, VW dealers and Audi dealers are operating on a level playing field.

Now why are A3s and Golfs so differently priced?!!!

Cheers,

Mike
