Well 3 weeks and 2500 miles into my Toyota ownership. The car is very relaxing to drive high miles and eats up motorway, handling is very average as is the engine. Good levels of standard kit except no alloys.

I am getting between 38-40 mpg on each tankful which is good for such a big petrol car.

On the downside quality speaks for itself but not in a good way. The initial feel is excellent but I the rear wiper makes a loud grinding noise, there was a faint rattle on delivery and now the dashboard squeaks unless you hold it. I would go to the dealer now but unfortunately it has had some bricks fall on it while stationary so it is off to the bodyshop first.

Interesting! I had similar thoughts/problems with my Corolla-interior quality isn't as top notch as Toyota would have us think. OK, the materials used will go on and on and on, but some rattles, creaks etc put a dampner on things.

But saying that every car I've owned has had a noisy cabin to some degree-I think the best was the Leon-generally quiet. The worst has been the A2 and the Corolla.

I've been looking around a Avensis as I fancy an auto now-fed up with my 10,000 miles PA of mainly town driving. Seen some T4 1.8 and 2.0 on 53 plates with a couple of thousand miles for about £14k.

Do you have any 'fancy, suprise, neat' features on your Avensis?

The sterio is superb on the Avensis. It has been set up to provide fantastic mid range and is ideal for the sort of relaxing music that suits the cars character and controls on the stearing wheel are standard. If you go for an avensis with Sat nav (T3-s T4 and T Spirit) you get voice control of the audio for nearly all functions. Interior space is also vast. The boot is massive, 2 sets of golf clubs still leave acres of space. The boot also has 2 hooks to hang shopping bags on to stop them flying around. This is an excellent idea but only 2 are provided, 4 would be better as this would contain a whole weekly shop for me. The glove box is huge, like a big bin and will hold small bags if needed. The doors are huge and very solid leaving you feeling very secure. If you want to cruise in comfort insulated from the world around this is very good for the money. A T4 would do this even better

I would suggest though that for town driving this car will not return good MPG, it is very heavy and stop starts kill the economy. Best on a run.

Shame I couldn't have a Ford TDCI 130bhp Diesel in it, or a nice 2.2 Honda Diesel!

I hear the Toyota D4D isn't the best, but OK.
