Traction control light flashing under power when turn left only on dry road?

Hi,

Cant seem to find the cause of the traction control light flashing and cutting power only when turning left. Everything okay when turning right and happens when roads are bone dry and no reason for slippage. Tried code readers but no fault codes registering and starting to run out of ideas as to hoe to fix?

Cheers Jon

Is there any damage to the ABS sensor / connector / cable going into the left hand bearing housing? Wondering if putting steering into full left to try to recreate this symptom and then trying the ABS ECU test sequence (assuming one of the readers can activate the procedure as my VAG401 can) would be informative.

Hi JonnyL,
We have exactly the same problem intermittently on our A2 too. It is very annoying because code reader shows nothing at the end of the journey.

If the ESP system is detecting a potentially dangerous situation via it's sensors, then it'll warn you via the ESP light. That's the correct operation hence no fault code.
Need to work out the condition that triggers the instability. Start with tyres perhaps.

Second thoughts, check the longitudinal, and lateral sensors, with VCDS. If they are out, they will be telling the ESP system that the car is leaning to far into the corner, (or not enough), or that the nose is dropping too far, etc.
Either way, the sensor's block data will show you what's what.
Car on level ground, if one or both are out, (shown in degrees to one decimal point), run Basic Settings to put them right.

Could you swap abs sensors over to see if it follows one? Maybe one of those in the wheel hub are faulty?

Is your steering wheel centered when travelling straight?
That's a good call. If the steering wheel is not at the straight ahead when the front wheels are, then the steering angle sensor is telling the ESP that your turning a little, because it's offset. When you turn sharply, you add that offset, to your turn and the ESP sees a steering angle that doesn't agree with other sensor info, (long & lat, etc), and warns you all is not well.
Could be that when you had the wheel alignment done, the steering wheel was not set at dead ahead. If, as @Howey suggests, that's the case, get the wheel alignment done again, this time with the steering wheel in the right position.
Checking the ESP sensors with VCDS would tell you which sensor is, (probably), causing the problem.
The ESP system is constantly checking the sensors, to keep you out of trouble. It can only work with the data it gets.

Here's an overview of the ESP/TCC, which is giving you the ESP/TCC warning light:

Thank you, a good few features to check there, I will report back when I have VCDS checked the ESP sensors.
It could be any of them, but I'd start with checking steering wheel position when wheels are dead ahead, followed by Lat & Long, (Roll & Yaw).
Good luck,
Mac.

Brake switch one of the first to check or replace.

We are assuming the car was working fine before and no work has been carried out on the car??

I'd look at these ESP Groups. Ideally, start a log on all four, then go for a drive, and try to induce, (safely) the ESP Warning.

001,2,Wheel Speed, Front Right (G45).
