Trading in with audi for newer model

I have a '52 reg grey A2 1.4. Bought it as a demonstrator with 2,000 miles
on the clock. It had loads of work done under warranty and since the main
problem has been with warning lights - in particular Engine management and
recently ABS brake light has come on while i was in v. big traffic jam for hours. I spoke to my garage and he thinks i should get rid of it - when he
did oil change he noticed small oil leak from gear box... + if there were something wrong with ABS it would be v. expensive. I spoke to pleasant
person at Audi who explained that electrics on A2 warning system was not
that great...+ that the car was probably fine ! + that it was better on newer
models - in particular 1.6 FSE (?) Should i look for one of those ? I don't
want another model of car - this is great for running around and all drivers
are friendly towards it.
My car has 28,000 on the clock - what can i expect to pay for different
model and get for mine.

Hi Leyla,

Have you thought about a TDI A2? Road tax is only £35 for 12 months.

You may be best selling your A2 privately, Have a look on www.audi.co.uk on the used car locator for any A2's that you are interested in then give the dealer a call see what price they offer.

All dealers will offer a different trade in price, or deal depending on their sales figures etc.

Leyla,

Sounds like someone is keen to screw a bit of money out of you to me, as the warning systems haven't really changed from your 2002 car to the last 2005 ones.

The only differences were on the early pre-2002 cars that didn't have CAN bus and the FSI is certainly no different from other engined A2s.

The only reason you could have for changing would be if you no longer have any faith in the car, because of past problems. If not, then unless you want another type of A2 (and I would heartily recommend the diesels) then keep the one you have as you probably have the sroblems all sorted now.

Even if you were to change, I'd certainly sell privately, otherwise Audi will be making money on you twice over, once on the trade-in and again on the new A2.

What I did with my last A2 was get a trade in figure from the dealer, then list it in Ebay with that + £50 as the reserve (the £50 pays for the listing fees). Any more you get is money in your pocket and you're also benefitting the new owner who is getting the car for less than forecourt prices. This way, I got £750 more than I would have done.

Don't be too hasty in your decision either.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks MIke ! unfortunately the problems aren't really sorted and short
of having Audi look into it - I'll not really know if the intermittent flashing
of either Engine management or ABS brake system are a true warning!
Also - my mechanic told me that there is a small amount of leakage from
gear box - again 'nice' man at Audi said this is normal.. - SO - yes i have lost confidence in this car ! The reason i am thinking of going through Audi is that i get 1 year warranty. Another concern is that here where we live in
London we have loads of speed bumps and i'm concerned about suspension.
So private sale could leave new owner with some problems + i'm far too
honest ! ! Is the diesel engine nippy enough ? and are they more reliable ?

Lastly - recently my engine developed a bit of a stutter when accelerating
in possibly too low a gear or going up steep hill. It has just been serviced,
so i'm wondering if it could be dirty petrol or something more sinsister ?

I do so love the A2 though ! There is no other small car for me at the moment ! ! Leyla
