Trip odometer resets to zero randomly

Hi all,

does anyone know what could be causing my trip odometer to reset itself to zero randomly? I have seen it go up to more than 3000 km but other times is has reset itself even after a few hundreds of km. When I first got the car it had a wrong and cheaper battery installed but last year I found out that the battery was wrong and installed the one that is recommended by the manufacturer. So I assume that the battery/power supply should not be causing the problem. But still the trip odo will at some point reset to zero. Anyone else has experienced this? How to find out whats wrong?

No, I don't have kids and I never place anything in the binnacle. By faulty switch do you mean the switch that resets the trip odo?

Yes, can't imagine anything else would reset the trip odometer (without also wiping the clock).
 
OK, Thanks! I will probably live with this. I took the whole dash once out to sent it out for an LCD display replacement but this problem is not worth bothering I guess.
