TT 7j alloys - running 205 55s on a 16?

Oh my! It looks like your mud guard is almost touching! did you hit any speed bumps at all? Any scrubbing?

Mine is standard SE TDi75 suspension so i guess I'd have a bit more room. Do you think this is an okay set up or do you think it's too close to be workable?

Speed bumps, check. Spirited roundabouts, check. No rubbing. The tyre actually moves away from the mudflap as the compression squashes on the A2, so if it's going to rub anywhere, it'll be on the front, around the 10 o'clock position as pictured. I'm confident that this will work on my A2 and have ordered 2 new Michelins to be fitted this week.

You are a gentleman and I thank you for your role as ‘test pilot’ in this. need to update the ‘definitive Tyres list’ - although maybe with the proviso that it’s on TT alloys.

I do sort of wish I had been around for the ‘spirited driving’ - that sounds fun!

Hi there!
I had them on a couple of days (7J ET31 205/55/16) while repairing the original ones. They look great but there was a bit of rubbing so I decided to keep the 6J ET35.

Well that is extremely helpful. Especially the pictures. Thank you very much.

Makes the idea of trimming the plastic very clear as well - it’s obvious where that would need to be done.

Brilliant!

They are but I was under the impression the standard sizes were wont to read a couple of percent low on the speedo so this would be within the 3% if that were the case. Need to test it.

I am curious about those same rims (7J ET31) with 205/50/16 instead of 55. Do you think that rubbing would still be present?
Thanks!

No. That is the size that others run on them and the size that I'll probably end up using. They are more expensive than the 55s hence my desire to hope that it could work.

If I find some super cheap 55s I'm still going to give it a go I think...
