ive just purchased my first A2 SPORT TDI 2002 and am new to this forum,i think the car is great but can anyone recommend a tyre choice for the standard 17 inch rims, there are p7000s on the front at the moment and it sounds like a landrover with tyre noise. Any advice would be helpful!

I have Avon ZZ3 215/40 R 17s on at the moment and Goodyear Eagle F1s on the rear.

Both are good quiet grippy tyres, the Goodyears being slightly more grippy, the Avons being slightly quieter.

I am about to change the rears for Yokohama Parada Spec2s, which are also meant to be very quiet and grippy.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks Mike,
noticed you've had a re-map done something im considering. Is there a vast improvment and does it smooth out the power delivery, your experience would be helpful.
cheers,
Dave

I have dunlop sportmaxx in 17" which are pretty good but noticed with jettyres they are offering amazing price for uniroyal rainsport 205 40 17 which I also have in 16" version for other A2, and they are excellent

There is an unbelieveable improvement after a re-map, yes.

The car will freely rev to the redline in all gears and does so very briskly - 1st gear is almost redundant now, there is so much torque available (255 ft lbs or 346 Nm in new money).

The downside is that as you have more beans at your disposal, you tend to use them (I do anyway) and so the economy suffers.

Ask DarrenC what his, independant thoughts are on the remap - he has driven my car and it persuaded him to have his own A2 done.

It's not cheap, but you only get it done once.

Cheers,

Mike

i contacted a remapping place in Northampton advertised in a mag they quoted 102bhp.
a mobile service remapping your original chip with a computer for £250. Is this a wise move, do they all do the same job anyway.
cheers,
Dave.

Absolutley not a wise move.

A mobile re-mapper is not necessarily a bad thing, but be careful. Simon Coe at CCCTech is excellent and did a good job on my car - until I compared it with the results that Awesome of Irlam achieved.

A company that quotes a specific power figure is also one to be wary of, unless they say 'about XXXbhp'.

No 2 A2 engines are alike - they all have very slightly different characteristics and tolerances and so a custom rolling road remap, such as those offered by Stealth Racing, Awesome etc are by far and away the best bet.

All re-maps do NOT do the same thing, so choose wisely.

Cheers,

Mike
