Advice please?

Having put my new re furbished alloys on and given the car a good wash and polish Im now left with a unsightly scratch on my rear bumper which wont come out with T-cut.

I can try the various mobile scratch repair companies but just wondered what you chaps have done to repair some thing like this?

Something that deep needs paint to rectify I'm afraid. I'd get the whole bumper painted for about £80-100 for a better finish if I was you.

I paid £250 for a single front wing.

It was pearlescent Tahitian metallic aqua and that included fitting but still not cheap.

I have had a go myself in the past with properly mixed spray tins. Frankly it was a relief when the car was written off because I’d done an awful job (it was a Smart not an A2). I’m a bit better now but I’m still awful.

If you don’t mind it being a bit of a different colour and finish go for it - better than it is now. If that would bug you, get a quote or 3 from a chip and ding repairer.

I’m paying £550 for two doors and rubbing strips but they are in boxes.
Respray is the only way and depends how good you want it to look. You could hide it with aerosols but it will not be great

Ive made some appointment with scratch repair companies ........will see what they are quoting.

Thanks for the advice

If the car was written off because of your paint job it must have been spectacularly bad! :)

to the original poster - I will also be interested if you have any useful results from this survey. I've got (probable sun-tan lotion) handprints, probable key marks and some inept parking on my dolphin grey car, and while I could try to follow various online tutorials, I suspect that my abilities are much more limited than "Pinkythelabrat's"' and the car would need to be *destroyed with fire* rather than written off for the sake of society...

It was written off for £3000 of repairs on a £1200 car - the paint wasn’t even judged.

It turns out metallic silver tridion is hard to get right and the colour coat changes colour if moisture gets in before you seal it. So temperature, humidity, spray direction, thickness, clear coat type (and colour) all matter. Unless you can blend like a champ then forget it. oh, and don’t forget age effects and uv damage on the original colour.

I have rattle canned bits of my campervan but it’s white and close is still better than orange rust. Still took six tins to get a colour that was ‘close’.

DJ Autospray of Penrith painted a front wing for me (metallic black with the satin bottom bit) for £100, including supplying the paint. It looks pretty good. Des is a very helpful bloke. However, I suppose Penrith is not on everyone's doorstep.
