Scary moment the other day. Whilst reversing down a country lane to allow an oncoming car past, I pulled into an open gate way. The little A2 leant alarmingly, 2 wheels came off the ground, and then, luckily, it returned to all four rather than the alternative! Me and my girlfriend looked at each other in disbelief. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Before you all say I was going too fast,I also have an A4 and it certainly would never have behaved like that at a similar,or even higher speed.

A lesson has been learnt, no amount of electronic trickery can defy physics.

Never happened to me (yet), however makes you think whether there is a reverse Elk test!!!!

Ive had my car on 2 wheels, it was my own fault though. Went round a corner far too fast and the drivers side lifted off the ground. Very scary moment ! [20]

It would seem that the A2 has tooooo much grip where most would slide we lift a wheel or 2.

I am supprised that the A2 will lift a wheel at all given what happened to the A Class.

I have pushed alot of car to the limit of grip (just for fun) and as yet have not worried about the A2 its good fun to drive hard or soft.

Good that I'm not alone here, I think!!!!!!!! Very sorry to hear about your experience Rob.

My car only has 175 section tyres, so it doesn't generate huge amounts of grip. I suppose that however much grip you have, if you have a centre of gravity that is too high, you will topple. When I park my A2 and A4 next to each other it is plain to see that the A2 is significantly taller and has a significantly narrower track than the A4. I also reckon that Open Sky doesn't help matters, must be quite heavy.
Perhaps the most telling difference is that in the A4 ESP can be turned off, in the A2 it comes back on again when you reach 40 ish. Clearly people in Germany a lot wiser than me know the limitations of this otherwise wonderful vehicle.

I think the experience Rob had and Calvin almost would have happend to all cars like the A2. For example the Mercedes A-class tumbled the first time the tried the elk-test. I have been driving the new VW Polo before the A2, but i feel saver turning my A2 than the Polo(with sport-suspension and the same wheels).

Merc released a press statement recently stating that ESP has saved more lives by preventing accidents than airbags...

Also the Golf 1, 2 and even 3 always went through corners on three wheels if you did it a bit too fast and it was fine... The inside rear wheel lifted as the weight shifted to the outside...

As to the weight of the Open Sky see my post re A2 option weights:
http://www.a2forum.net/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=1926

So the Open Sky weighs: 35kgs (half a man at the highest point of the car... hmmm)

Any car can roll under the right sircumstances... even low heavy ones...
