Steve B, perhaps you should have a break from the thread, and let the other management / moderator team members step in.

Hi Andrew, a very valid comment, but even better still would be for this to only continue as PMs.

But I will heed that sage advice, thanks

Hello,

Thanks to Steve for fielding questions on this topic.

I don't agree with the dictatorship analogy. This was a democratic team decision amongst a diverse group of individuals, and with good reasoning. It's true that Steve has been a strong member of the A2OC team and will be instrumental in helping drive the A2OC forward. We need individuals with his enthusiasm, passion and support for our membership. I think people forget sometimes that this club is run by volunteers. We need to support anyone that shows an interest in helping the A2OC succeed. So thank you Steve for your continuing support.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time the A2OC has had issues with members with competing business interests. These revised advertising guidelines are intended to protect the club from future potential disputes amongst competitors and to provide a level playing field for everyone wishing to benefit from the A2OC community. It's hugely time consuming for the back office team to have to mediate and try to resolve any disputes. In the most part we can resolve things amicably.

With regard to the advertising rule changes, as Steve has pointed out, the club has appropriate Forums for discussing dealers/businesses. Applying some guidelines on appropriate content of signatures is relevant. It's a visible part of everyone's posts, and when used to promote other people's businesses, can give competitors an unfair advantage when used in prolific poster signatures. Once again, fairness to all of our members is at the heart of this decision.

I hope our members can understand the reasons for these changes.

I'm looking forward to working with the revitalised team.

Thanks,

Ben

hopefully the other mods will step in and say something because this is a little unfair asking steve to step aside as its directed towards him when it should be all people in charge. in my eyes it is best to have this behind closed doors as many including me have fell foul over petty posts but steve has openly apologised on several occasions.

i would prefer if steve continued as normal as these things can easily spiral out of control making one feel bad even if its not their fault and the last thing this forum wants is to lose a valuable member on issues like this.

if i am to add to this whole debacle i would say regardless of reputation that being tony or steve. what should be first and foremost of this forum is to help members new/old to the best of their abilities.

having spoke to tony a few times, he seems a very nice bloke and gave me help and advice on making the proper decisions on what i wanted. i dont want to add fuel to the fire but i felt let down by tony when i asked on a few occasions how much this would cost, when can this be done, blah blah blah! i have heard nothing in regards to replies, that was nearly 4 months ago! i have obviously turned to tom to get my mods done at some point convenient for both of us.

i do hope that the other mods voice their concerns on this issue and not just steves :/

thats my 2p worth

Hi Cammy

"f i am to add to this whole debacle i would say regardless of reputation that being tony or steve. what should be first and foremost of this forum is to help members new/old to the best of their abilities. "

Wise words indeed.

Thank you Cammy.

Sorry, genuinely.

But you did say that it has become personal and I read your statement of "There is clearly a personal issue going on" as being that but I did misintepret that and as I say, I am sorry for that.

Steve B

And here in lies the biggest problem with the Internet, different generations see things in different ways and things get easily misinterpreted and blown out of proportion.

My father is a perfect case in question he will post things and comment on things and offend people left right and centre but I know that there is no bad feeling in any of this and if they were said in person they would see the humour. This is the generation thing.....

Could a moderator please tell me why my signature denoting "account closed by member " was deleted?
What rule does this offend?
If there was a way to delete my account entirely I would do it.
Yet another example of dictatorship? Apologies won't work this time. I would suggest an explanation is better.

James.

Ps. Account closed by member has been added again.

James,

I'm not aware of anyone doctoring your account, so I am as in the dark as you as to why your signature changed.

I wish you would reconsider leaving mate, but you seem set on this course of action.

Best regards,

Darren

Hi James,

One explanation might simply be that your signature is not a true statement, you have not closed your account.

You continue to use your signature as some kind of a protest and not for what everyone else uses it for, i.e. to tell us about your car.

We are a humble car club not a corporation, we can't (and in my mind SHOULDN'T) have a hundred page document of rules.

We all know how to behave on an informal and friendly forum (I would hope) and continuing to use your signature to post inflammatory statements is simply not on.

As I say, you have constantly stated that you have left the club and that you have closed your account.

I have tried everything I can to make you change your mind as have others. But obviously you don't want to.

You say that if there was a way to delete your account entirely you would.

There is a way, we can delete/close it for you.

So I will ask the team to close your account as you so obviously want that to happen.

As I have said to you face to face I really don't want you to leave, and I tried my very best to get you to stay but you have made your mind up, so be it.

Sorry you see it that way. So you prefer it if there are no rules and no standards. You call it dictatorship I call it just trying to maintain a reasonable standard.

Basically you are saying it is ok for you to mount a protest as long as nobody does anything about it and just lets you get on with it.

Do you know how much effort it takes to try and keep this a helpful and pleasant place for all of us?

Sometimes we have to act and for some reason you seem to think that we benefit from this? How ?

we have tried our best to get you to stay but we will yet again do as you ask and reluctantly close your account.

On a personal note I think its a shame that James has chosen to leave. I do wish him all the very best and hope that in in the future these "differences" can be reconciled. :(
