Upgrade Front Speakers and amp

I have an FSI wit a Chorus 2 and wish to upgrade the front speakers using the existing grilles. Has anyone replaced with the Bose units or other? And has anyone upgraded the chip based amp under the front seat floor with anything decent?

Thanks for help. A past member of the old A2 club and nice to see it is back.

I replaced the speakers with component sets from JBL both in the front and rear doors. For the rear speakers I placed a JBL amplifier under the floor on the passenger side of the car.

It took some cutting of the aluminium covers and the original speaker housings, but the end result is pretty good.

In addition I covered the entire inside of the doors with that heavy lead-rubber stuff to dampen vibrations. The rear sides of the aluminum covers were covered with the same material as well. As an additional bonus it now sounds more like an A4 door when you close it instead of the rather dull thump of the A2 doors from the factory.

thanks for sharing these... are you still using a standard head unit or have you installed a new one?

I like good hifi, I used to have phoenix gold/rockford fosgate in my previous cars, but I've been quite impressed with the quality of my chorus set-up. I have found that stereos in other A2's I've had a courtesy cars have not been anywhere near as good as mine... not sure why???

If I can get better sound I think I should have a go :)

Perhaps your car has the rear speakers? They were an option, so not every car will have them - ours hasn't. We too quite liked the sound of the original Chorus and the Concert II we replaced it with. I dont feel an urgent need to upgrade it, but then I dont do long journeys in the car that often.

Hi Kitora, nice pictures you have there, and it's helpful to see someone doing on what i plan sometime in the near future. I was wondering if you could roughly tell me how long it took you to fit two new speakers in say, the front door cards, i'd be looking at fitting an amp but i'd probably have it in the boot, as i've got the SE two-tier boot.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike.

Just replacing the speakers in the front door took probably a couple of hours. I spent most of a day in total, but that also included picking up materials and tools a couple of times, and I also pulled a cable for a future sub into the trunk through the cable tube where the battery cables are located.

I have put together a 8,5 liter box for the sub to fit the trunk, but I still need some time on my hands and the 8" JBL sub before I'll get there.

Hey Kitora,

Sorry to bug you with all of these questions but i'm looking at doing the same soon, and i wanted to upgrade all four of my speakers. Which JBL speakers have you fitted? I'm guessing tehy're component speakers, if so, where did you manage to fit the cross over box? I've been looking at fitting some alpine type R's in all four door cards, but i'd have to find somewhere to secure the cross over boxes and i'd have to route through the cables to the boot for where i'm planning on putting the amp. Would you say this is going to be a bit of difficult job?

Many Thanks,

Mike

There's room for it between the aluminium plate and the door trim.

I attached mine with silvertape.
