Hi All I am relatively new to this forum and a car novice. The A2 has intrigued me enough about cars to start learning.

I didn’t intend to come across as imposing on others regarding the scan request. I was advised by some members that before I goto see a car some distance away to check if someone would be prepared to do a local scan. Therefore am confused by some of the comments - did I get it wrong?

It's sound advice to get any potential FSI purchase scanned for sure. If you do intend to purchase an FSI, you'd also be well advised to get your own VCDS setup! However the free scan register exists primarily to help owners with poorly cars diagnose issues flagged up (or not) by the car's EML. In theory that could be extended to scanning potential purchases, but that's a bit of a "lesser purpose" to bother someone local for.

To be honest if you're looking at an FSI, you basically need to see that the EML comes on with the ignition, and goes out with the engine starting. If either of those things doesn't happen, you should probably walk away unless the car is being sold at a price you can afford to lose.
 
Hi, you can add me into the list :) I'm in Liverpool (L16). Have full VCDS but limited VINs. Happy to do scans and resets but unfortunately CANNOT do any coding/changes as that needs registered VINs

I have Registered VCDS Lite, and happy to help with scanning and coding, where that works.

I don't have any experience with diesel's though, only AUA, so the software will be more helpful than me!
