The Volvo S60 (2.0T SE in particular)...

Anyone had any experience of this car?

Steve - 2002 1.4SE petrol, Silver, black/black interior, Then an identical replacement 2003 A2. Now a Toyota Corolla 1.6 T-Spirit

Well, not a very helpful one.
I've been a passenger in an S60 2.4 once. So wrong engine and also over 1.5 years ago: older model.

Leather interior was very nice and rich. Car felt like a barge. Vast interior. Stable handling but hard to tell as passenger.
Too big for my liking, but probably great to eat many miles for business travel.

Like I said. Not very helpful...

But what are you up to, Steve?

Not sure!
I go through phases of wanting to change the car. I'm getting lazy, and driving around town is starting to annoy me-I want an auto, plus a bit of comfort (leather seats, Dolby surround stereo etc), plus a bit more safety. I looked at all options and the S60 fits most.

I did look to stay with Toyota and have an Avensis, but for the same price I would have got a 1.8 T4, so less power, no leather, less equipment overall with the exception of Satnav which comes as standard on the Avensis, but then I don't do the "long distance to new places" thing to require satnav.

I've sat in many a Volvo and I have to say they do have the BEST seats in the business... S60 is getting long in the tooth, though it still looks good IMHO. It is also one of those in-between sized cars that is neither A4 size or A6.

If I was you I’d go for the beautiful V50 Estate. Plenty big enough and due to it being a smaller model than the S60 you can get a few more toys… sat nav especially is VERY expensive on a Volvo. This car looks great outside, really GREAT inside and is still fairly short to park. Nearly an A2 then!!! LOL

Steve,

Friend had the S60 2.0T for a couple of years, and actually replaced it with a S60 T5.
Personally I think they are superb motors. Smooth and refined, plus the 2.0T was quick enough. He actually changed to the T5 after his wife was T-boned pulling out of a junction in the S60 (her fault by the way) - every air bag went off, and she was perfectly ok. I know its a Volvo cliche, however they are damn safe motors.
As Johan already said, they probably have the best seats in the business - Soooo comfy, plus the surround sound system is pretty fine too.

Volvos always look good value second hand. I think the S60 is a lovely car although I have only sat in one. I have just been stung by volvo ownership. I ran a 2.0T S40 for 18 months, it was 2 years old at purchase. I bought at under trade price through a contact saving £2000 on dealer retail but it still lost £2500 over 18 months. In addition every time you visit a volvo dealership you are in for a shock, very expensive as where the tires.

The S60's I've been looking at cost about £22k new, but at 2 years and 15,000 miles later they can be had for £14k, but I can see this dropping further in years 3 onwards, but if I change my car every 2-3 years then a 5 year old S60 would still be worth £8K......maybe, maybe not!!!

My girlfriend´s Mother has an S60 D5, drove it a couple of weeks ago and found it VERY nice... quiet engine, 163 hp and quite speedy. She had a real problem with the parking heater (which is all in software anyway, the hardware is already in the car), which caused the car to turn put out a smokescreen that would do James Bond justice..:)

Bye, Frido.
