Water temp problem?!?!

Hi gang,

a problem has emerged with my 1.4 petrol, whereby normally the water temp gauge rises to 90 degrees when warmed up and stays there. Over the last few days, the gauge has been fluctuating, so it will reach 90, then stay there for about 1 minute, then will drop to 0. After a couple of minutes of driving it will then rise back to 90 and so the cycle continues like a yo yo....

Please can someone advise what this is likely to be and could I fix it myself easily? Is it a faulty sensor maybe and any ideas how much to fix?
Already need to sort out my EGR problems, cambelt and now service is due

Thanks,
Gaz

Hi all, thank god i found this forum, I have just brought my 2004 a2 1.4 tdi se and mine does the same it goes up to 90 then goes back down to 60 , seen a couple of replys on the link that it could be the termostat does any one know roughly how much it would cost to replace, should i go to a audi dealership or an independent, if any one knows a good independent garage in Se london or surrounding area pls tell me.

Also my gear box is really stiff any ideas plus the clutch feels a little heavey compared to my last car or is it because it a tdi and that its heavy ?

thanks

Audi will charge you minimum 1 hour labour and probably diagnostics too.

If you are in SE London, get in touch with Desli, who is in that neck of the woods - I believe she is familiar with the replacement procedure.

Failing this, Sarge could well help you out - he is also London based. Unfortunately, I am in Manchester, so not practical, but would love to be able to change it for you.

If you are careful/quick, the loss of coolant will be minimal too.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks guys,

spike, checked to thread about the stiff gearbox maybe mine is fine did notice grahm r did say it was stiffer than his wifes A class, the thing is i have just come out of an A class (2005 w169) and that was light. The stupid thing I have done is booked it into my local audi dealer for a diagnostics test on gearbox they want a hours labour to do this and its not cheap. I have got used to it slightly but i am panicing!!!! thinking of booking it in for a major service see if they say anything about it.

skipton, is that the name of company, Desli, do they have a website? are they both garages? if the worst came to the worst i would love you to do the work :)
by the way coolant is normal

thanks guys:)

Deseli and Sarge are both prominent members on these pages and both are utterly trustworthy and helpful people to boot.

Drop them a PM and see what can be done/

Cheers,

Mike
