Webasto parking heater on 1.4 AUA Petrol

Good evening fellow A2 drivers,

After fitting cruise control, I came to the idea to fit a Parking heater!

I'm sorry if there is yet a thread concirning this subject, but when it is, I wasn't able to find it.

I've bought a used parking heater, and want to retrofit it in the A2.

The connections to the heater and fan are pretty clear, but the connection to the fuel inlet isn't.

A lot of people on the net say that when you have an in-tank fuel pump, the connection should be made on the retour-pipe. Is this true? And if so, is the retour pipe of the A2 going far enough into the tank? because when the fuel is pumped up, the fuel line has to reach the bottom of the tank.

my next question is about the fuel tank itself, I have replaced the fuel filter couple of months ago, but I don't remember seeing the fuel tank, it has to be around the rear axle/under the rear seats. Is it hard to reach?

Summary is, that I'm looking for people with experience on this job, or enough knowledge to give me usefull tips, or tricks.

Thanks in advance people!

the tank: take the passenger side rear seat out and unscrew that plastic lid. You'll see the connector for the fuel pump.

If you google for "thermo top c/z", you'll get a selection of PDFs concerning Webastos...

I've red even the dutch installation guide, but was not sure if the retour is deep enough into the tank for taking in fuel until the last liters..

Another question, I presume that the webasto unit sends an 12V+ signal to turn on the interior fan, can I put this directly on one of the plugs of the fan behind de dash? Or do I have to link this via the Climat Control unit?

found a PDF on the german A2 forum, that says insert this wire (from the heater unit) here in the back of the climat control unit.

But I can't believe that just that will make your fan turn. Think I'm going to have a try at it. Seems to me that it's also possible to take the fan on immidiatly..

Keep you posted, think I'm going to try something friday or saturday..

Bret, I thought the tank unscrew lid was under the DRIVERS side rear seat?!

came a long way yesterday, The only thing left, is the electric part. And because of the climat controle, that will be pretty tricky.. in the old days, you would just take a big relais, and go for the fan. But our fan is controlled by the climat control unit.. Luckely in germany are a lot of people who have the knowledge.. I hope it wil work today..
