West London Audi?

I'll check tonight.
The roof does still work - I opened it on my way to WLA on Monday morning, but it does judder a bit, and creaks when you go over (large) bumps now, but I didn't think those symptoms were bad enough to warrant a full roof replacement just yet. Maybe I should get it to break...

Dan
Worthing told me it was the date of manufacture, not 1st registration as that's what caught me out
There was 14 days difference in mine and I fell between the two

Water under the bridge........ Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

...Where is that info noted then?

Have you had a chance to look at your service book inside-front-cover yet? I recall there are dates on it, but I can't remember which ones exactly.

The bottom line is put in a call to Worthing ASAP. The relevant dates will be on the Audi database so you can probably call without knowing it.

Service book is with the car which is at West Laandan Audi - they're currently trying to track down the oil leak which has been steadily increasing in flow rate these last few months.

I might just give Worthing Audi a call though anyway, good shout.

Update. This is madness!
Spoke to Michael at Worthing Audi took my registration details and checked with Audi there and then - they confirmed my car will still qualify for the good will replacement up until 13th March 2013, provided my service book is fully up to date (which it is). So I've not got long to act!

They said they simply don't understand why other Audi garages are saying to their A2 customers that this warranty/good will replacement option isn't available, they said it's not difficult to tick the right boxes on the system, but they're not complaining as they're doing 90% of all roof replacements for A2s in the UK and Audi pay them for it!

So, I'll get my car back from WLA this week and send it down to Worthing as soon as possible after that. Ridiculous that WLA can't or won't do it.

It's probably for the best. It sounds like a fiddly job which is easy to get wrong, so it's a good idea to have someone doing it who has done lots of them before.

It looks like you're going to get the MkII OpenSky, Dan, so I'd be happy. As Mike says, I'd rather hand it over to someone who's done the job many times before, even if that means driving a bit, than have someone teach themselves using your car. I drove to Bad Toelz to have mine fixed as no garages in the UK would do the job at the time, so I wouldn't complain! :)

I seem to have scraped in by the skin of my teeth it would seem yes. Have to get my service log book to Worthing first yet though, plus the "it's screwed and needs replacing" report from WLA.

Ditto this....or just use the silicone spray and give it a good thorough clean.

Yes - I've lubricated the runners and seals every year since owning the car. It's always juddered and creaked a bit but always kept my fingers crossed that it would be ok.

I've just spoken to WLA and I said that I'd spoken to another Audi dealership and had got the good will replacement arranged, and they basically said "well, we don't know how you've done it but well done". No interest in them finding out how to get into the scheme themselves. Still find that bizarre.

My oil is bleeding out both from the rocker cover gasket, and the "tandem pump seal". At least it's not the turbo seals!
Get my wee beastie back on Friday.

(what is a tandem pump? - apart from the obvious!)

Have a read of my cylinder head rebuild thread. :) ...http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?21576

The tandem pump, as the name suggests, does two things. It's a low-pressure lift pump for the fuel and is also responsible for generating a vacuum.
If you take the cover off your engine, you'll see the tandem pump attached to the end of the camshaft on the right-hand end as you look at it.

Well got my beloved wee little Beastie back today, all serviced, oil leaks stemmed, cleaned and shiny.
I have to say, apart from the roof question (which is not isolated only to West London Audi!), the service they gave me was actually very good - lots of updates, very professional and I feel like I was treated as a valued customer.
They also showed me the email from Audi from the application they had made to try and get the roof done under warranty which said it was refused - they're interested to know what it is that Worthing Audi is doing that they can't!

After a week of driving the A4, which I had started to get used to, and rather quite like, that particular motor car, but it was nice to get back into the A2!

Now to book in with Worthing Audi to get my roof replaced and also get it MOT'ed (and take up the Audi MOT cover!).

Ooh, wish me luck people - seems there may be an issue with my car's service record from the original owner where they went possibly too many miles between services (27k) for it to qualify as having a full comprehensive regular service history. Worthing are pressing my case with Audi Germany, but to get this close to an OSS replacement and lose out because of what the previous owner didn't do would be gutting!

Hi dan, good luck fella; but if this is used as justification to refuse the warranty claim I would be applying some pressure and firmly requesting an explanation of how a short delay between an otherwise complete history would have had a material impact on the opensky components.

I'm sure it'll all work out for you.

Well quite - apparently they have had one refused for an incomplete service history, so it's whether "slightly more miles than you might want" is considered incomplete. It was also of course on a variable service schedule back then too.

I don't think that should be a problem. If it's on longlife servicing, 27k can be permitted (longlife goes up to 30k/2y if the driver mostly does motorway miles). Of course it is sensible to do it prior to that point, but if they are just going by the service indicator...
