I can't find an Audi salesman who can answer this question: in the boot of the A2 (beside the battery) is an empty/vacant aperture that looks as though it would take a 'standard' CD autochanger.

I am told that it isn't for an autochanger, but no one seems to know why the empty aperture is there.

So, what's it for?

as jon.od says, it's a DIN size opening for the sat nav cd-rom drive. If you can find a din size changer you may be OK (blaupunkt do one I believe)

I found it handy to store Tesco carrier bags.......

The TV Tuner for the SatNavPlus is there in my A2...(the blue arrow points there...)

Thanks,guys...

...your response saves me starting a new thread asking questions about the SatNav. I'm thinking about having the basic set-up (not the Plus version), but no one at Audi customer services - or either of my two local Audi dealers - can tell me how you input your destination instructions using what looks to be just a simple rotary input control.

Do you somehow enter the postcode or map co-ordinates via a built-in menu that shows-up in the DIS?

I only know the german version, but there you can input characters via a menu on the DIS and it narrows down a list of destinations as you input more and more characters... I don´t know if it is possible to enter the postcode with a UK CD...

You can enter all (but partial) postcodes from the 2003 CD onwards. e.g. RG1 would bring up Reading and you drill down from there. Can't enter full post code. The earlier CDs had just Londo districts I think. You get house number ranges on most streets as well.

If you have SatNav+ then the Nav cd is in the top of the headunit - not in the underfloor boot. The GPS bits are there though I think.

The SatNav+ consists of the Head Unit (with CDROM drive) and the TMC box (in the underfloor compartment under the driver´s feet)...

You are all on the wrong track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The empty space is for the COMPRESSOR to pump up your tyre after you had puncture and put that glue stuff in. Plugs into cigarette lighter. Mine was missing as well. It`s all in the handbook, page....

islandgreen-are you sure? My tyre gunge and compressor were in a foam pack seperate from the hole for the sat nav cd-rom drive.

I agree with run boy i have no spare and my compressor & tyre gunk do not occupy that space

We have a spare and even with a compressor still have the space - I keep the white Audi bin liner in it!

Why are NEARLY all the A2s in Lichfield silver ? ? ?

I go with the last three. I have a spare and the gunk and compressor and still have the Sat nav gap!

If you have the Bose Sub woofer installed then all the breakdown kit is under the drivers footwell. The photo shows the bose sub.

I hired an A2 for a week before I ordered mine and the place where the bose sub is had a closed cell foam block that pulled out and had all the breakdown kit including compressor etc in it.
The long section next to the battery was another closed cell block that had nothing in it - just a space filler.

I have the bose system and my boot looks exactly the same (minus the blue & red arrows :) ) as the photo except the space indicated by the blue arrow has an empty DIN size bracket.

Hello All;

I'm off to test drive an X-Reg (2001) A2 1.4SE with the Bose Speaker Upgrade and Six-Disc Changer, so I'll confirm what all the "slots" are for.

My guess one of the DIN size slots is for the amplifier/cross-over for the Bose Speaker Upgrade. Will confirm.

Hello All;

I take delivery of the X-Reg (2001) A2 1.4 SE this coming Wednesday (10th of March), but when I took the test drive, the DIN bay was empty.

Will have a closer look when it is delivered.
