I'm sure the wiper is different in some way!

The wiper should be different, the 2002 ones should have the newer stereo´s (Chorus II etc.) and CAN-Bus wiring for them....

@Griff: My A2 is from Sept. 2001, it is a model year 2002.... so should be yours.

As has already been highlighted it is better to quote the years as used by the manufacturer, rather than the actual year. So it seems that after September of each year Audi will refer to the model as being allocated to the following year – by example a Oct 2002 car is really a classified 2003 model.

Based upon this, the differences in models that exist range from 2000 to 2003, however rather than go into what has the larger fuel tank etc, etc, I would prefer to distinguish the differences in that the 2003 model has a fair chance of problems found in 2000 cars being fixed. On the basis of Audi not starting a war they dare not publish the exact changes made over the model duration, especially when by example 2000 & 2001 owners might be insisting that they had the new window regulators with revised software – or whatever.

I do appreciate that 2003 owners are experiencing technical problems, but the bottom line must surely be that a 2003 model offers the best of chances for trouble free motoring. Then again I’m sure 2004 will be better, but by then owners might be saying they thought the seat frames on 2000 models were the best.

And don't forget, within a model year, Audi go by the VIN number. Hence my 2003 didn't have the 2003 new wiper fitted, yet a another 2003 does have the 2003 new wiper fitted.

So maybe some 2003 don't have the larger fuel tank, but do have the wiper, maybe some have both, maybe some have neither.

Simple really.

so it's probably best to wait until the A2 has finished production, as all the faults will be known and documented, all the odd parts will have been used up, so the cars will be identical and fault free. On the other hand, they might have found some of those 2000 seat frames hidden in the stores.........

I thought the major difference between 2001 and 2002 was the CANBUS wiring - this improved the AM radio reception from diabolical to adequate. At same time the radios were updated to Chorus/Concert/Symphony II

Next big change was the larger fuel tank and rear disc brakes (2003 model year or slightly earlier?)

Perhaps someone can do a nice pretty time line showing all the changes ?

1.4SE -> 1.6SE 3 weeks and counting

I think rear disc brakes are only on the FSI as our 2003 1.4 only has drums on the back.

1.4SE petrol in Merlot Red, Biege interior, 16" 5 spoke alloys, DIS, Open Sky, Elec rear windows.

Yep, rear discs on 1.6 only.

Why did Audi ever put rusting rear drums on all other A2's I will never know.

Dont forget 2003 models have a revised suspension too.

I'm not 100% convinced on that one-I do wonder if it's just the 1.6 with the revised suspension-my 2003 1.4 is no different on the suspension front to my 2002 (but only after the suspension blocks were removed of course, which had been left in by Robinsons Audi, Norwich during the PDI check...).

Anyone confirm this?.

Well I remember reading an article that said the suspension alterations were going to be applied across the range, but motoring journalists are often wrong ! I did wonder if the new suspension was part of how Audi managed to increase the fuel tank size ?
