What's this on the dash?

I didn't mean returning to original, I meant having it without a button because it sounded like that was your preference :)

Don't confuse considering possible problems with negative thinking ;)

Not long now! Using that scrap CD players', catch has been a major hassle! Alignment, etc. The end result has been most pleasing, though. Just a very small and discrete oval button just in front of the lid, to open!

A few photo's, as promised ....

Good detail there! What do you intend to store in your new cubby hole?!

Well, how about the CASH that I'll need for my JDD box swap and for my latest, white-wall tyres and special (15") alloys? LOL! My wallet/passport DOES fit in there, however! I will take a photo of my old TomTom, attached to the underside of the lid, just for your interest .... Look, this work is certainly do-able, but WOW, what a hassle! I would really recommend using that switch, however (push to open/close) I curse seeing that 50p portable CD player at a car-boot sale! My brain has just about exploded with the effort! It does look so neat, though, and opens with the slightest of pressure! There is certainly no loss of air-flow, either ...... As I have said before, you don't have to be MAD to take on the work that I do, but it helps! LOL!

absolutely fantastic job. its exactly what i had in mind when i asked the question all those weeks ago. i suspect there'll be a few people here looking to take on the challenge.

thankyou!

Yes, I agree, it's looking good, but IMHO the Tomtom looks out of place, although I know that's not what was originally planned for this space.

Just a thought......
How about a 7" widescreen LCD panel - and motorised hinge pins with auto stop/reverse, activated by the button in the centre .:D

Anyway, I think the effort and skill you've put into making this space usable is admirable.

Well done David

Cheers

Jeff

Stop giving David Idears Jeff. I think David had his work cut out doing what he did without you making it more complex :p

But it would look great with a 7"LCD panel........

In Imperial units, the opening is 8" x 6", so it may be possible to fit a 7" LCD panel. If I really had too, then I would be able to do this, I believe. I would probably completely re-route those vent-ducts, because otherwise, even more area would have to be cut-away to fit a wider tray. I do have an RNS-E fitted, so it is completely irrelevant to my A2. Like any project, if I did this again, then I would a far better job, based on my experience. Thank you for all your compliments!

Very impressive work, my hands wouldn't be steady enough for the first cut, never mind making everything work :cool:
