ok, how many of you guys wash the inside of your wheels?

you know, the part that nobody can see unless you peep into the inside of the wheel where the disc brakes are...

everytime i wash the wheels on the A2 i have this shameful compulsion to scrub the back/inside of the wheels...

i have yet to actually do it after having the car for almost a month but its keeping me up at night...

i'm turning into a nervous wreck!

please tell me i'm not alone!

It stems from wanting a clean car, and the saying "if a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing well".

I found the basic A2 alloys easy to clean inside as you could get your hand through-now my Corolla with 6 spoke alloys is more difficult.

I find as long as you clean as much as you can reach, then that's all the eye can see!

I take the wheels off once every 4 months to give them a really good clean and polish.

How sad???

oh my,

i too have considered taking the wheels off....

do you use the jack that comes with the A2 to lift the car?

can't wait till the weekend!!!

Yep,

I orginaly started doing this so the wheel bolts would not get to corroded on/stiff to release and as the wheel were off good time to clean them. some may even swop front and rears to extend the milage but as I don't have a spare and only have one jack they only get a clean..

I would recommend everyone to clean the inside, even the bits you cannot see. Having neclected those on my (employer's) Passat after 90,000 miles the corrosion is running through from the inside under the finish coat. Keeping the inside clean should minimise the ris of this.

Why are NEARLY all the A2s in Lichfield are silver ? ? ?

Every week inside and out! But they do look good, by the way the Alloy Wax is still doing its job, but after 3 months + it looks like a fresh application is going to be required.

On the subject of swapping front to rear, be aware that you should always have more tread on the rear than the front, it's been proven to be a very bad idea to have worn tyres on the rear and good ones on the front, I think there was also an item on Driven about it. It stops you falling off the road when cornering.

Well, I'm just recovering from hand through 17" Sport Wheel on Silver TDI, whilst 'wife' attemps to move 'just a bit forwards' to make it easier to reach around the brake discs!! Ouch.

Seriously though, I am now sold on Supaguard Alloy wheel 'protector' - brake dust just hoses off through spokes - thank God!

Welcome to the club

That's a very brave thing to do - lucky you still have all your fingers!

I wash one half then PUSH the car forward to do the other half.

Brake protectors create significant increased temperature. Shags discs and pads in the longer term

I apply some MER-metallic-wax on the wheels so that they clean easily !

I only ever clean the bits I can see, on the A2 I reach through and clean the bits at the back, but not that religiously I must admit. We don't do many miles so they aren't that bad yet.
