Which section tyres best for 17" rims?

My Audi A2 1.6 FSI Sport has 17" Rims and 40 section tyres. Needless to say the rife is a little rough, and I suspect with larger section tyres it would probably be better so I thought I might change up when replacing the tyres. Does anybody know the implications - clearly bigger circumference = lower reading on speedo, and might not fit in arch. But, what about handling etc? Any experiences or thoughts welcome

This topic has been well covered in the recent past and you would be wise to do a search for the various comments.

To summarise though, the standard rolling diameter of the A2 tyres is 590-595mm, whether you have 15", 16" or 17" wheels. The maximum you can go to without rubbing issues is about 605-608mm.

In reality, this means 215/40 R 17 is the maximum, although there are folks that use 205/45 R17, but rubbing could become an issue on full lock and if you have any lowering, forget it!

Cheers,

Mike

There are a few posts on the A2 sports harsh ride on this forum. People have changed suspension or got 16" wheels to solve this problem.
