Hello all

I've got a problem with little white flecks, like cigarette ash, coming out of the air vents. They've been coming out ever since I've had the car, although I've never let anyone smoke in it so that can't be the cause.

I'm sure I remember reading here ages ago that there's some sort of the problem with the air conditioning lining(?) - searched the forums, but can't find the topic.

I asked the dealer about it at the last service and they said they weren't aware of such a problem.

Has anyone got the same problem, or can point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

Yes you're right about reading it on here before. Didn't have the problem myself but from the distant dreggs of my memory I recall it was a coating of a heating/cooling matrix. Not sure if it was only on air con cars or all cars.
There was concern at the time as you don't want small slivers of metal being blown around the car and potentially into your lungs but for the life of me I can't remember any outcomes - sorry.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a 1.4SE petrol. http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/uk14.htm http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/safety.htm
New A2 on order - Ebony Black, Red Leather + many other options.

It was good old JD who had this problem (amongst others). From memory it is aluminium slivers. Whatever, it's not nice and I'm sure it was a warranty claim and the dealer fixed it.

I'll hunt through some archives I have, but in the menatime ewan010901 I would hound the dealer to get it fixed.

I had this problem on my a2tdi. It looked like dandruff but slighly larger fleks. The dealer indeed confirmed that it was something to do with a lining/filter on the ac. They could replace it but the problem would persist. He advised to put up with it as it should abate after time. The car is now 18months old. AC is used everyday and the problem has indeed gone away.

I think that inhalation of small metal parts is quite dangerous to your lungs. Could be wise to contact your local health office to inform if you're not damaging your health.

Just to be sure...
